My good friend's dog, an Akita named Renfield is being put down tomorrow morning, he stroked out in the spine 3 years ago, but with water therapy and some of God's blessings, he lived another 3 years, able to walk with a harness and stand on his own. Now at ago 9 he cant stand up any more and his back legs have given out for good. My friend has tried everything, steroids, pain meds and accupuncture and we have been helping her walk him by lifting his back end with the harness, but it is no use. He is a larger breed of Akita, and while is not fat, still weighs 140 pounds. So tomorrow the Vet is coming to her home to put him down, outside in the yard, his favorite place to sit. I've known many dogs but he is by far the smartest and most kind, all the while being a good watch dog protecting my friend from trouble. Does anyone know where I can get a Japanese block print or water color of this type of dog? I heard that there is also a statue of one of this dogs in Japan that is famous for being loyal to his owner who he would meet everyday at the train station, until he died. The owner died 10 years before the dog but the dog still would wait for his master. Thanks for any suggestions. |

Muttart.com has a variety of nice prints. Dogstuff.com has a number of Akita knicknacks -- mugs, figurines, tree ornaments. More akita stuff on ebay: auction We had akitas when we lived in Japan. Had to leave one behind, and have the other put down after we got back to the states. That was pretty hard on the whole family. |

Something that would take longer would be have an artist turn a photograph into a painting. Best wishes for tomorrow, it will be a hard day all round. |

Try this portrait artist on ebay. She's really good and very fast – did my mum a superb portrait of her black labrador (Bluey): auction |

Yeah, this was a sad morning. "Renfield" the Akita, was my dog's "Boyfriend" so to speak. They grew up together, and would hang out together like an old married couple, very sweet. I have a couple of photos of two together, so I'll pick an artist. I just had the thought in my head of that Japanese video game with the spirit dog and the graphic style, kind of old fashion but uniquely Asian. Cant think of the name of the game, but it will come to me. Thanks for your support. |
