All,
While I am extremely cautious with replys to Bank offers, Alerts, and Ebay offers this one almost got me twice. Here is the item I bid on on Ebay and won:

auction

On 07 Oct 07 I asked the seller for an invoice and waited. I use my Comcast account for all my ebay transactions as the others accounts are busy with this and that. The same day I got this:

I was concerned as I do not use Gmail for any transactions only family stuff and HMGS correspondences. I emailed the seller via Ebay and he said he did not send it. He and I both sent the email to eBay and they confirmed it was a phishing email.

Okay I caught this one in time. On the 19th of this month I was at work and checked my yahoo account and saw this:

At first I thought GREAT I have been trying to corner the market on Foundry Late Republic Romans and had been out bid on several over the past month or so. So I think "Gosh when I get home I will have to follow up on this". When I go home I punched up the email and followed the link to the item. Then it struck me. Hey I already paid for this what is going on! Now this one came to my Yahoo account which I do not use for ebay but did in the past use for pay-pal. So anyother set of emails off to ebay and yes this was another attack on me from cyber space.

Now I will give you that all my account names are similar (I would be the only Vojvoda on the net if I could help it) but how did they figure out what email accounts I had?!?

Any how I hope this alert is a wake up call. The second one almost got me.

I have seen similar "offers" in the past. One that almost got me was a 'payment notice' from the seller of the item I had won…. which on second look turned out to be from a different seller trying to get me to pay him for the item I'd won from somebody else. It's a lot harder to do that now that you can track and pay for auctions directly through ebay.

2nd chance offers will always show up in your "My Ebay" panel after you've logged in to your account. I always check there first when the email looks suspicious.

I had a phishing email purporting to be from Ebay just last week. Threatened to report me to Ebay if I didn't pay for an item. Trouble was, neither Ebay nor Paypal have the email address that the email came to, my Ebay name was nowhere on the email despite saying that it should be, AND the email didn't mention what I'd bought. It was so amateurish it was kind of amusing. I reported it.

I got those all the time. Also the normal spam about getting my account verified. Those are automatic deleted.

Yeah, Ebay doesn't handle second chance offers like that. When you offer an item to someone as a second chance, it creeats an exclusive auction listing for the user you are offering it to. It shows up for them for a period of time that the seller chooses, a minimum of 24 hours I believe.
