Curious if anyone has any info on house insurance rates along Alabama's Gulf Coast. Thinking about buying a home priced from 100-150K, but I am afraid of what the ins. is going to cost me.

I would call one of the local agents for one of the bigger insurance companies like State Farm or Allstate. They know their territory.

Do you have a particular house in mind right now? You and your mortgage holder (if any) will want to know if flood insurance will be necessary, too. That will be separate from any other normal home insurance.

Good luck.

Through the roof. If the house is below I-10 good luck finding a company to insure you. If you can get it, expect to pay a hefty price. My house payments have gone up by $300 USD per month due to the increase in insurance.

I was looking at buying another house and my company (USAA) would not commit to insuring me.

I live in Pensacola and it is not good across the panhandle for numerous reasons. I work for an insurance company, my supervisor bought a new home and our company would not insure him. He had to get citizens insurance……may God have mercy on his soul.

You no longer just have to worry about flood insurance. If you anywhere near the coast, you now have to get wind damage insurance. At least if you have both, they can't argue very effectively that you're not covered.

No house in mind right now and it will be a number of months before I can get down there--just want to do some advance planning(and I imagine I will break down and contact an ins. agent).

Work for an ins. company and can't get ins.? Man, that's pretty bad. I was doing some reading and I-10 does appear to be the dividing line. I'm not married to the idea of being right on the coast, so something north of I-10 is certainly worth looking in to.

Thanks.

Some companies will not insure buildings below I-10. Call the Insurance regulator in Montgomery or his branch office in Mobile for more details.
