auction I have put some of my naval art paintings up on eBay if any of the list Members are interested. Some WW1 and some WW2. First time I've done this, so I'm curious to know how much interest there is. I usually just work from commissions. Mal.Wright.

I've seen your stuff before Mal and I've always liked it very much. I'm not much of a naval fan despite coming from a mainly Naval family but I would be interested in something with Canadian content. Have you done any RCN paintings? |

No I havent done any Canadian ships. But the Corvette HMS BLUEBELL that features in one of the paintings, was painted using the Canadian Corvette Snowberry, as one of the reference sources. I almost did it as the Snowberry, but changed my mind at the last moment because I was doing the work for a book cover and a British one was required. I have messed about with other subjects other than Naval. But recently I have had so many commissions, that I have very little time to paint anything else! |

Excellent work Mal!! You haven't tried to sell them in a gallery, possibly in England? |

Mal, These are very nice works (not my cup of tea -- I'm more into the Wild West period). If I might make a few suggestions on your listings: - Offer to include a signed letter of authenticity - State whether or not sale transfers publication/reproduction rights - Provide more historical context with some text, as you did on the "HMS Skate on convoy duty" piece. This will make the piece sound more interesting Good luck with the auctions! Mike |

You know, now that I think of it, it probably wouldn't hurt to add a paragraph about yourself. Something like "Mal Wright is a leading authority on
and has been illustrating for
His work has appeared in
publications, etc." Something to entice people who are not already fans of your work, but who might like the work because of an interest in the ship or battle portrayed. |

Even though I am an air guy more then a navy type I enjoyed looking at your work. The Arctic convoy one was tempting but getting a picture of a WW2 German plane (even if secondary to the painting imagery) into this house is a bit unlikely. Keep up the painting! Gracias, Glenn |

"The Arctic convoy one was tempting but getting a picture of a WW2 German plane (even if secondary to the painting imagery) into this house is a bit unlikely." Well one IS getting shot down
.and I could always add some holes in the other one!

LOL! Mal, it is a great picture but, regretfully, not for my house. My personal peccadillo perhaps
I would e-mail you direct but I don't know your e-mail so hopefully this won't hijack the thread
apologies in advance if it does. A picture (using aerial examples) of a F-82 (F-84 or F-85 or F-51 or Sea Fury or a Meteor even) shooting down a North Korean/PRC plane, yes; a P-38 shooting down a Zero, yes; a Spad/Nieuport shooting a WW1 German fighter, yes; (switching to Naval themes) 'Small Boys' at Samar Bay, Yes; USCG 'on patrol' WW2, Yes; Canadian Navy (wife was born in Canada) in the Atlantic in WW2, Yes; Anything German in WW2, No. My maternal Grandfather came over to the USA from Germany before the 1930's or that side of the family might have become statistics like so many families he knew who didn't emigrate. Having worked in an Orthodox Jewish owned/run private hospital working with WW2 aged 'modified psych/geriatric' patients and seeing the tatoos and hearing the stories from the coherent patients (there were a few) totally turned me off to anything with WW2 Germans involved. I have even quietly skipped games at cons because the only opening was for WW2 German forces. Not that others should but because I can and do choose to do that. Again, I have nothing against the picture, it was very well executed, it was a wonderful presentation and I know it will be sold to the right buyer but I am not it. I hope it sells high. My email, is mgwright@bigpond.net.au Anyone interested in a painting can contact me there. I must confess that if we do WW2 I normally play the non German side too. French, Polish, British or Russian, for which I have large armies. I do have Germans, but then one does have to have 'targets', if nobody else in your group collects the opposition for the right period. Not a religious thing for me. Just an old cop 'right and wrong' issue. |
