I have recently returned from a holiday in Bangkok and before visiting I asked the group for advice on where to go and what to see (wargaming wise).
On my return I thought that it would be interesting to list some of the sites that may be of interest to other TMP'ers visiting Thialand;
Firstly I did not see any shops, stores or clubs for wargaming! Bangkok is a Mecca for anyone interested in Gundam or Transformers – literally every mall would have hundreds of kits!
Loads of Manga DVD's
There are many stores that sell 'pocket money' toys, models in plastic balls that are ussually vended in machines for less that 2 UK Pounds. In addition there is a whole culture of miniature collections in small boxes, planes, boats, tanks figures etc all conveniently marked with which figure is in which box – so no buying five boxes for the single figure you want!
Paragon Mall, Bangkok;
A Tokyo bookshop with modelling magazines in Japanese, very expensive, but some of the photographs are fantastic, I bought two magazines.
Also Asia Bookstore – worth a visit.
Paragon store, bangkok (as above);
The Paragon centre toy department has loads of Gundam and transformer models, but it was the art section that really took my eye – well worth a visit and very, very cheap.
Central Shopping centre, Bangkok;
Check out ZEN, a department store with loads of models, paints and modelling materials, a huge selection and well worth a call.
Also a large Toys R Us.
MBK Shopping centre;
Go to the top floor and check out the model and toy sections for bargains – very cheap.
Central Rama III;
Yet another shopping centre, but the best selection of Sci Fi models I saw on my whole trip, lots of small stall holders with hundreds of 'pocket money toys'.
Cahta a Caht Weekend Market;
Worth a visit if you ever get to Bangkok – the largest market in Asia and you can buy anything! But be prepared to spend all day there!
I hope that this helps any one esle looking to visit Bangkok.
