The Confrontation artwork, got me thinking: Why are Succubi always depicted in artwork and ads to painted figures as brunettes and/or redheads, while Angelic/Celestial beings as blondes? Blondes aren't prone to fiendish depravity? Is there a disposition towards imagining higher feminine entities as being, in general, fairer haired than those from the lower planes? In contrast, the male counterparts aren't as limited in hair pigmentation. |

Whoever heard of a blonde Goth chick? Seriously was married to an Irish Redhead
.she would give Lucifer a run for his money!!!

Hot red heads are really hot. Hot blondes can be really hot as well though. As can brunettes, but I think the hot redhead takes the cake. |

Umm, I guess I screwed up then. I painted some of my sucubi with blonde hair. and some of angels with red hair. Hanging my head in shame. GeorgeD |

Yeh I can't understand it either – blondes ar emore often the 'loose' woman and a bit dim, brunettes the opposite. Still, succubi are hot, angels aren't so I guess it makes sense :-) |

Red haired angels were common in Renaissance painting. Perhaps it's Hollywood stereotyping, you've got to keep it simple when you have less than two hours to tell a story. |

Because blondes need someone to tell them how to have fun, while brunettes and redheads know it instinctively? :) Seriously, I hadn't noticed

Pretty much all Disney heroines were blonde and villanesses brunette until "Beaty and The Beast". I think it is that old dark/bad light/good thing. |

Perhaps it's Hollywood stereotyping, you've got to keep it simple when you have less than two hours to tell a story. What would be so complicated about a woman's hair tone, unless it happens to be the focus of the story? |

"What would be so complicated about a woman's hair tone, unless it happens to be the focus of the story?" Like the bad guy wearing a black hat in pre 1960 western movies, it's a stereotype that speeds up and clarifies the story. Like one of those labels people wear at conventions "Hi, I'm ----". Blonds are one type brunettes another redheads a third. Never mind most people are aware hair color has little or no correlation with personality, when you have to assemble a brutally clear story in a short time (as in a commercial Hollywood film) you work with pre-fabricated chunks of culturally associated ideas. |

Blondesare air-heads and easy to be directed (in some cases they have to be). Redheads are scheming and full of their own ideas and love to control the situation. |

I painted a blonde demoness. Interesting question though, I'm sure it has to to do with a long tradition of black/darkness being associated with evil. |
| Neotacha | 23 Aug 2007 10:36 a.m. PST |
Must be. Think about fairy tale heroines. The good daughter is almost always blonde and 'fair', while the evil daughter is dark-haired. She may even be sallow. |
| Jovian1 | 23 Aug 2007 10:37 a.m. PST |
Because the evil blondes were booked already when they did the photo shoot – some creative director needed a fill-in and the other succubi needed some cash. |

In societies with (natural) blondes, blondism is associated with youth because a high percentage of blondes darken as they age, thus offering an evolutionary "stamp of freshness." Blondism is therefore, in those societies, associated with youth, naivete, and innocence. The innocence component of that is why angels are often portrayed as blonde, and therefore succubi are assigned contrasting hair colours. |

What's brown, black, and blue, and lying in a ditch? A brunette who told too many blond jokes

Because blondes need someone to tell them how to have fun, while brunettes and redheads know it instinctively? :) This only applies to mortals , a subject of another discussion, while I'm concerned about otherworldly beings. When I get round to painting an Aasimar en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aasimar Cleric, fair hair would be the default, as I'm lousy with eyes. Aasimars often have some quality hinting to their otherworldly heritage, such as golden eyes, an unusually intense stare, silver hair, and the like. I follow the reasoning made for blonde angelics, but why doesn't the same standard apply to the male beings? |

This is why I prefer Spaghetti Westerns, where hat color is a preference and plenty of scheming two-timing blondes. |

I was informed recently of a study being done at Cambridge University to list all the dumb blond jokes. I was told they spent millions but could only find four jokes. Apperantly all the rest of the stories were true events not jokes. |

You answered the question yourself, Condottiere, with the words "fiendish depravity". Gotta be a brunette. |
| lugal hdan | 24 Aug 2007 3:52 p.m. PST |
My guess is that it's a cultural relic of the old "Anglo Saxon" days – weren't the Germanic Saxons mostly fair haired, and the Celtic Britons darker? But as we all know, Goths were redheads, or at least their women were, so who knows. :-) |
| CooperSteveatWork | 27 Aug 2007 8:04 a.m. PST |
"Snow White the first princess has black hair. " Didn't stop Hitler viewing her as 'the epitome of Aryan womanhood' or words to that effect. Mind you Eva Von Braun was (appropriately enough) brunette. |

Hair growing darker with age is obviously gender-specific as well as species-relative; don't most of you dark-haired humans get grey as you get older, and some of my other cousins become silverbacks? And as far as I understand it, Angels (Powers, Thrones, Dominions and the rest) aren't female OR male, but simply entities which can assume human form (much like incubi and succubi, cherubs and seraphs). |
| Norscaman | 22 Jan 2008 2:56 p.m. PST |

Condottiere. You have a good point, One that I had not no noticed. The biggest evil in this man made world is subliminal messages. our world is loaded with them. 99% of the time it is a total accident when They are placed. All of the long term subliminals are passed down through Generation after Generation quite innocently. could This be one that was started in the 1930's? blond hair and blue eyes was said to be the signature of the master race!!!! Just a thought, A frightening one at that :( Toll |
| smokingwreckage | 17 Feb 2008 5:43 p.m. PST |
