I have some works by Mort Kunstler in my gameroom and plan to add Bradley Schmehl's painting of the burning of the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge once my new book on that topic is in print later this summer.

What Civil War (or other military subject) artwork decorats your game room?

Plynkes05 May 2007 4:25 a.m. PST

Nothing from the Civil War, but I have two framed Zulu War Alphonse De Neuville prints and a framed "Private Ryan" poster.

Those prints:

Other decoration includes a Zulu-style shield, spear and Knobkerrie; plus U.S., Soviet, Vietnamese and Hereford United Flags.

My game room (pool table room) is proudly watched over by my grandfathers WWII pic, platoon and medals framed up, and flanked by two prints of Australians in action at El Alamein and New Guinea. Hoping to get hold a ACW print for my study.

I have several of the Gettysburg promo posters mounted in the rec room. These poster-prints by Kunstler and Dale Gallon are very affordable (read cheap!). I have one of the free posters from the tourist bureau which features a mass reenactment. I also have some photos of a Confederate reenactment group crossing the Emmitsburg Road and approaching the Angle. Rob.

(Looking forward to being in Gettysburg again next month!)

I have the "Charge of the Scots Greys" on the wall above the computer along with the Company photo graph of my Fathers OTB Company from 24 November 1951, taken at Abberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

Major Mike, do you mean Lady Butler's "Scotland Forever?" That's a great painting. I'm lucky enough to have seen the real thing in the Leeds City Art Gallery. A sight to behold. It's massive.

Or is it another painting of the same subject?

x42brown05 May 2007 5:35 a.m. PST

Wrong civil was but I have "A Scene From the Civil War" over one end of the games table. It's from the English Civil War. "Their Banners Proudly Shown" at the other end. That's a Victorian idea of knights in armour.

I'm not sure if I got that second title exactly right.

Several Don Troiani prints – prefer his style of painting to Mort Kunstler

Geez, you got a game room!!??

vojvoda05 May 2007 6:13 a.m. PST

I have six Don Troiani prints (regimental series) on one wall, I just got a new Keith Rocco painting along the same lines. I had one of his older prints of the 20th Maine already. In the guest bath off the library I have some small Dale Gallon print.

Oh I have on the wall also a print of the battlefield layout of Gettysburg.

Other Prints I have above the fire place two prints of Zulu Attack on Rorkes Drift. One by Detaille and the other by Keith Rocco.

I still have up a print of Napoleon in his study as well. I have another Napoleonic print by Keith Rocco that is not yet framed.

Ancients I have three uniform prints of Roman Soldiers also above the fire place.

Three unique items I have are some memory cases, one with WWII items (Nazi stamps, coins etc) my Dad had in a box I found after his death. The second has a Kenya campaign medal of P.L. Dyer, and his lensatic compass. The third is one from my military days and is a dispay of Noriega's dress uniform items I "liberated" from his uniform, including his nameplate and shoulder boards.

The rest of the items are photos and other stuff from my Army days.

I have one or two other prints that are ACW related I have not put up yet, along with maybe 20 or so maps of the battle of Gettysburg.

I do not have any ACW prints (yet, I am looking though).

I have picture of my Great-Great Grandfather with his Sudan medals mounted in the same frame and a water coloured Victorian print of the 19th Hussars charge at El Teb (the annoying thing about this though is that the 19th have been painyed with red tunics…but I loved the print so much I had to buy it).

The Beast Rampant05 May 2007 7:03 a.m. PST

In my room, I have Rick Reeves' "Darkest of all Decembers" (Hood's Battle of Nashville), and "The Last Meeting" a litho of the classic Fredrick Halpin engraving.

I have the Troiani book of Civil War uniforms, along with a 1836-era military map of the Republic of Texas hanging in my office here at home – one of my ancestors was an early Texas Ranger…

Much military art in my game room with pride of place going to a bust of Alexander. The only ACW items are memorablia of my reenactment days.

Pictors Studio05 May 2007 7:24 a.m. PST

I have a bunch of JA Cooper originals in my room. I think there are at least half a dozen of them at this point. In addition to that I have a giclee Napoleonic print from Keith Rocco, a Tom Freeman naval print, an original Napoleonic naval painting by Harvey, a Roman print by Chris Collingwood and a Rodney Matthews Elric poster.

Jerry Lucas05 May 2007 7:50 a.m. PST

In my gameroom/ Pool Table room, I have two Troiani prints framed 69th Pennsylvania print "Rock of Erin" and Gen. Patrick Cleburne at Franklin. Also the Gettysburg movie poster.
I also have my Springfield rifle musket and leathers hanging up from my reenacting days.
I'd like to get some WWII but don't know where to put them. Maybe switch with the others depending on the theme of the game. More stuff!! Hehe!!

Being more of an ACW naval nut, I have a couple of naval prints on the walls -- a McGrath and a Freeman. Plus we have several other similar prints on walls upstairs – both Age of Sail and some sidewheel steamboat prints.

Troiani's Retreat by Recoil
Troiani's For God's Sake Forward

I may put my PIAT on the wall too…

I have a copy of the anouncement that 'the Union is disolved!'

When I was a wee lad, back in the 70's, my Granfather found two civil war prints at a yard sale. One was titled "The Battle of Kenesaw Mountain", and the other "the battle of Gettysburg. I must have been 6 or 7. he had them professionally mounted and framed, and they graced my bedroom as I grew up. Now, they grace the wall of my Game Room… I'm not even into the Civil War era, but do love these prints, as much for the nostalgia as for the subject matter.

Major Mike05 May 2007 2:24 p.m. PST

(Major Mike, do you mean Lady Butler's "Scotland Forever?")

Yes, Thats the one, I got it from Dewars (I think) back in the early 1980's. Had it professionally framed.

coopman06 May 2007 6:58 a.m. PST

I've got a couple of Don Troiani prints on the wall. I don't like Kunstler's style either.
