I start Thursday with Task Force Lincoln. I'll be teaching middle-school kids about drug awareness and abuse prevention.

I am very, very jazzed, as is my wife.

There are a few loose ends to tie up at my civilian job, but will most likely come in on Saturdays until that's done.

The drive will be long, but I'm looking forward to the opportunity.

Yeaaaa! And there I was being a pessimist last time around. Important work, Jay – good luck!

Congratulations.

"I'll be teaching middle-school kids about drug awareness and abuse prevention."

But I am wondering how this gets to be the army's job?

Jay Arnold27 Feb 2007 12:09 p.m. PST

The Governor sez "I need people to teach kids about drugs."

The Adjutant General sez "I've got 4000 motivated, punctual drug-free people with short hair in the state's National Guard."

The Governor sez "Let's get it on!"

That's how it works in Illinois at least.

Congratulations, Jay, and good luck!

You know something Jay, your explanation of the Governor's logic makes complete sense to me. Over here there would be so much hand wringing about resources it would never get off the ground. All our locally elected officials can come up with are new ways to spend our money.

That's called "leveraging your resources". As a resident of Illinois, I haven't been too thrilled with Guv Blago's performance so far, but kudos to him for having a good idea.

I would also touch on the fact of some doctors perscribeing too many medications.

Well, Uncle Rod isn't totally to blame/thank for the Counter Drug Support Office. It's at least 8 years old.

Where in the Land of Lincoln are you Fritz? I live in Pike County and will be working in Sangamon County (obviously).

Jay Arnold27 Feb 2007 3:16 p.m. PST

Thanks for all the congratulations, by the way.

Procopius28 Feb 2007 12:26 a.m. PST

Add my congrats to the previous ones Jay. All the best with it mate.

Cheers,
