So this one came from out of the blue. Has anyone heard of or know anymore information about this rules set? Review? Battle report? |

Are there adaptations to the English Civil War? |
Jcfrog | 16 Jun 2015 8:18 a.m. PST |
Now Nick man, you need pics, AaR, reviews in depth, scales, designer philosophy. Yes, I know a lot. |
Who asked this joker | 16 Jun 2015 8:34 a.m. PST |
I did find a FB page that does have a pic or two. Spanish language though. |

There is a link on the facebook page to a website: elkraken.es/released/en A link to a 'lite' version is available for download but only available in Spanish at the present time. North Star are selling an English language version of the full set of 'Tercios' |
Jcfrog | 16 Jun 2015 9:26 a.m. PST |
Caramba… Only in Spanish. Relapse of Philip V hopes of world suprmacy. |

A little translate and one can figure out how this thing works. Thanks for the link Thomas! |

Didn't see Catholic League listed as an army choice. |

From the Brevis Editio it appears they are using large basing similar to Impetus. But this is just a suggestion and not required. It will be as other games, as long as both sides have the same basing system, DBx/FoG, Impetus, Pike & Shotte, it will no matter. It is also card driven, there are cards to move, fire, melee, etc. Sorry, I am reading as I can at work and updating when able… |

I'd be interested to know more. At £15.00 GBP it's not too much to risk buying a copy but it would of course help to have a bit more information. The fact that it is card driven appeals to me. |

Yeah, sorry I can't say more about it. We have a deal to import the marvellous Painting War magazines from Spain, and this is from the same publishers. We haven't played it yet as it only arrived the other day. If someone is interested in giving an in-depth on-line review (in English) drop us a line. |

Just received a few copies from Nick. I'll be reading it over this week, but it seems well produced. |

The 'lite' version of the rules, in Spanish, can be found at: link Suggested 28mm basing for Tercios is 12cm x 12cm, other infantry are 12cm x 6cm. Cavalry and detached companies are 8cm x 4cm. Alternatively Tercios and infantry can be made up of 4cm x 4 cm bases, with cavalry on 5cm x 2.5cm bases. Suggested basing for 15mm is also given. Even for a non-Spanish speaker like me, having a flick through the rules and examples gives an idea of how they will play. Everything seems to be laid out in a clear and logical manner, with examples of play. Did notice though that on page 1 they have the dates of the Thirty Years War as being from 1608-1648. Ezza |

Did notice though that on page 1 they have the dates of the Thirty Years War as being from 1608-1648. Well…simple math will tell you that this is correct. I fail to see the problem. OK. Minor typo aside flicking through the rules did reveal that it will probably be a fast/fun game. |

Seems funny when first painting shown in 'TYW' wargaming system is 'Battle of Kircholm' from 1605 ;) |

So here is the rundown based on the rather imperfect google translate and what I could get from the rules in a short time. Movement is somewhat IGO-UGO. Each player drops order cards on units and they somehow alternate moves. If they get within 3" of an enemy, that enemy may choose to react if it has not moved yet. Your moves have to be within the guidelines of the order that you gave them. Shooting and combat use the same mechanic. You roll a handful of dice and try to score hits. The target number is based on the matchup. Usually it is either a 4+ or a 5+. Now the enemy unit rolls a number of dice equal to the courage of that unit. A flat number of a 5+ negates 1 hit. Any unsaved hits cause a wear point. If you take more wear points than the unit has stamina, there is a chance the unit will break and run (eliminated). Again, number of dice equal to the discipline of the unit with a flat target number of 6. For these sorts of checks, at least 1 die must reach the target number or the check fails. Terrain can modify combat and shooting. So the game is quite simple and is right up my alley. The game is also element based. You will have to have some way to mark casualties, either by a roster, tiddly winks, numeric chits or casualty figures. One question: "Salvas" eluded my translation. It means "saves" according to google. It is a defense stat though…as in the target number an enemy needs to hit. Can someone tell me what it means in this context? |

"One question: "Salvas" eluded my translation. It means "saves" according to google. It is a defense stat though…as in the target number an enemy needs to hit. Can someone tell me what it means in this context?" "Salvo" in English = "salva" in Spanish, at least according to Google Translate. |

"Salvo" in English = "salva" in Spanish, at least according to Google Translate. Thanks. I figured that must be what it meant. Never thought to reverse the translation! So, defense against shooting apparently then. |

Hi Capt Flash: It is a phrase of the time. More Thanks You. Best wishes: Xan |

"Salva" in Spanish also means barrage of gunfire, rifle volley of shots. Best wishes: Xan |

I take it that as it's part of the Painting War series with it's emphasis on quality painted 28mm mini's that the game can be played in 28mm? Darrell. Can you use 6mm figs? It is element based so figures are irrelevant. I suspect that 6mm on big bases would really look the part. |

I just got the rules in the mail yesterday. I'll have to give them a go. One thing I'd like to see is some historical battle scenarios. |
