So I see a 6mm Ratte !!! Nice !!! |
| richarDISNEY | 27 Mar 2012 3:24 p.m. PST |
28mm would be awesome. But the sticker shock would be horrifying
 |
| SBminisguy | 27 Mar 2012 4:28 p.m. PST |
A 28mm model would be about 22 inches long -- that's a serious kit!! |
| J Womack 94 | 27 Mar 2012 4:32 p.m. PST |
It does look vaguely like a Fencer OGRE. But I don't get the point of using naval guns. For what? City bombardment would be all they are good for in a land battle. Or a semi-mobile shore battery. A couple of dozen Tigers would be a lot more useful in fighting the war. |
| J Womack 94 | 27 Mar 2012 4:33 p.m. PST |
Not, for the record, that this isn't a really cool model. Because it is. |
| Etranger | 27 Mar 2012 5:58 p.m. PST |
And I WILL have these for sale on the Little Soldiers table at Bugle Call, by my life, I will!! Save one for me Martin! |
| Ron W DuBray | 27 Mar 2012 6:03 p.m. PST |
One flight of thunderbolts and you have a dead super tank. |
| kallman | 27 Mar 2012 6:49 p.m. PST |
Something tells me we will soon see some 15mm WW II games where more of these things than were ever produce (1 being too many) on a gaming table coming to you soon. |

But I don't get the point of using naval guns. For what? City bombardment would be all they are good for in a land battle. Or a semi-mobile shore battery. This is basically it. If the Germans ever built a few and tried to use them as tactical weapons, that would be dead on stupid of them. This is a STRATEGIC level weapon by all means. It's extra weapons are purely self defense. The 128mm cannon is for KOing tanks that might get through it's own armoured and crewed AT gun veil and the AA emplacements for scaring off any aircraft that might want to try to harass it while it's naval guns would be for bunker busting and destroying massed assaults and encampments with large quantities of men and materiel. "A fortress circumvented ceases to be an obstacle. A fortress destroyed ceases to be a threat. Do not forget the difference." ;) |

Cool as it is, thinking about it, it would not even take aircraft to render it useless. I'm picturing a Sherman driving along right next to it, underneath the arc of fire of all of those huge guns, and pounding on the running gear with it's puny little 75mm gun until it breaks. Can you imagine what it would take to change a track on that thing? Doesn't mean I don't want one (in 6mm), though. Doug |

Can you imagine what it would take to change a track on that thing? There are lots of things wrong with the idea of a land cruiser, but that's not one of them. It's like arguing that you'll pilot a raft right up next to a WWII Heavy Cruiser, tie up next to the cruiser, and shoot at it with your rifle until it sinks. |

TheBeast | 28 Mar 2012 6:39 a.m. PST |
How much is it? We need to weigh it, so I'm going to come back to that one soon
. Is it 'soon' yet? ;->= Doug |
| SBminisguy | 28 Mar 2012 7:26 a.m. PST |
Well, the Germans planned that each Ratte would be at the core of it own Kampfgruppe, so that Sherman would have to get through a lot of support troops and AFVs before running alongside to pepper the running gear. Anyways, it's an interesting piece of "What if?" history! |
McKinstry | 28 Mar 2012 8:04 a.m. PST |
I don't think a PT boat ever sank a DD, much less a cruiser. |

So
SBminisguy
are you thinking about producing a P.1000 in 6mm and make it available to the masses ? |
| boy wundyr x | 28 Mar 2012 8:35 a.m. PST |
What Legion 4 said, x2, please! |
| elsyrsyn | 28 Mar 2012 8:58 a.m. PST |
Um, it already is available to the masses, via Shapeways. Costs about $50 USD, depending on the material in which you choose to have it made. Doug |
| kevanG | 28 Mar 2012 9:17 a.m. PST |
caught you early did they? |
| boy wundyr x | 28 Mar 2012 11:13 a.m. PST |
True, Doug, but I'm hoping for the less expensive resin and metal version based on the Shapeways print. SBminisguy talked about it over on page 1 (and a few months ago elsewhere on TMP). Chris |
| SBminisguy | 28 Mar 2012 1:34 p.m. PST |
We're talking to casters right now on the 1/285th scale Ratte, so it's still in process. The final kit will likely be resin with metal detail parts. |

Actually one could make a 28mm Ratte as the game table itself. Think of the scenario as something like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but on a much larger tank. The attacking models are making a raid on top of the tank while the defending crew are popping up from the hatches (spawning points). Everyonce in a while the main guns go off, forcing everying to make some sort of shock test. |
| Agis N | 28 Mar 2012 10:46 p.m. PST |
Well I have already drafted the rules for the Ratte for Victory Decision (http://www.adpublishing.de/html/victory_decision.html), comes around 5000 points, so roughly the equivalent to 3 fully mechanized and tank supported platoons. A "Sink the rat!" scenario would be nice, I will draft it and make it available together with the rules for the beast for free eventually (needs some testing first
). |
| Aliosborne | 29 Mar 2012 2:10 a.m. PST |
I believe the price will be around £95.00 GBP (this may change so dont quote me) its very large and dwarfs the other 15mm tanks They will be sneding off one to be painted and hopefully will have it back for Salute Cant wait to see one in the flesh though |
| SBminisguy | 29 Mar 2012 7:52 a.m. PST |
Hi Agis, When will the Ratte rules be ready, and can you use 1/285th up to 28mm figures in Victory Decision? Looking forward to pictures of this beastie on the gaming table!! |
Legion 4 | 29 Mar 2012 9:41 a.m. PST |
A 1/285th scale RATTE works for me !!! Please keep us informed !!! |
| Agis N | 29 Mar 2012 11:27 p.m. PST |
@SBminisguy – The rules work from 6mm to 32mm
;) So yes the rules could also be used for the 6mm variant. The basic stats are done but untested. So as soon as I have the model I will paint it up and play some games, then we'll see. |
