Why "the killer' anymore than any other general in history? I've always seen the overthrow of the Aztec empire as one of Spain's more positive achievements. |

A credit to the company and the designer. Helen |

Do they make a figure of Montezuma (the human-sacrificing cannibal)? |

Maybe Cortes the Killer in honor of Neil Young's old song: "He came dancing across the water With his galleons and guns
" And it goes downhill from there. :-) |

I find them kind of out of proportion – they just don't seem quite right to me. Maybe if I see the finished product and/or painted versions I will change my opinion. |

Out of proportion? What's the matter with you? Don't you have monkey-arms that reach to your knees? |

I love Nick Collier's work usually but
Part of the problem may be Cortez's hat which seems to sit up very high on his head (which looks too big: compare it with the "Spanish conquistador holding two handed item which looks much better). |

Why "the killer' anymore than any other general in history? No idea, it's a wierd thing to say. He was accused of strangling a wife aside from battlefield killings. Then there was the business with the death of Cuauhtemoc which has so many sides and shads of grey it's like trying to decide between four eight year old quads which one started a fight. |

Hi all, thank you for your comments. Why The Killer? It, as CorporalTrim said, was an allusion to the Neal Young track, Cortez the killer. YouTube link I don't think he was any more brutal than many other conquering generals of the period, but 'Cortez the determined and professional' wouldn't have scanned and would have been difficult to rhyme ;-) |

How about just: Hernán Cortés de Monroy y Pizarro? (hooray for Wikipedia) ;) |
| basileus66 | 03 Jul 2009 3:03 a.m. PST |
I would say that "The Killer" isn't a bad nickname for Cortés. Probably, the man himself would have feeled flattered! |

Times and values were different then today? Gracias, Glenn |

Well, years ago I had a friend whose forearms were so long he could scratch the back of his shoulder just by bending his elbow. But he wasn't Spanish

" Down by the river -I shot my baby
" Whose the killer now Neil? ( ok I know he didn't actually
) Cracking set at Glasto mind you. |

Santa Maria those are nice. Love the artillery and pooch handlers. |

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Neal Young's work so I missed the allusion. It's very clever and apropos. Onward through the Fog! |

The song offended Franco. That's a good thing. Rock on in the free world, Neil! Allen |

I missed the Neil Young connection too. Of course, I've never been able to tell the difference between Neil Young's music, and the sound of a bag of cats being thrown down a flight of stairs. |
