I have always been curious about Kershner's Age of Napoleon rules, but have never really heard much about them

I've had my own Age of Napoleon rules for over ten years. I guess that I should have copyrighted the name. Oh well, good luck with your rules Tod. I imagine that they play similar to Age of Reason rules for the SYW, so they are easy to learn and fun to play. |

The rules are easy to learn. Oh yes and fun to play. They have some similarity to AOR as the manuver elements are infantry battalions and cavalry regiments. It uses d6s for most elements of play. The use of skirmishers is unique. For those liking a less cumbersome ruleset then this is a optional way to go. It was not meant to be the 'last word' in Napoleonic gaming but a quicker play game that gives the 'feel' of the period. The move sequence is slightly different than the norm. Commanders dice for initiative. The phasing player A moves cavalry, then B moves cavalry. Player A moves infantry then B moves infantry. Then go into the normal artillery and small arms rounds. There are no artificial command ratings for all the famous commanders. We let the players control or be controlled by the action. The scenario booklet has several different battles over the era. Some of the battles are corps level actions. With each scenario is an ob and army lists for the contending powers with the troops involved in the scenarios and also more to help create other battles of the same period. An example is the Saalfeld battle. It takes place prior to Jena and is a Prussian/Saxon force defending against a French Advance guard. The Borodino battle is broken up into seperate scenarios. Just to mention eg one for the attack on the fleches and one for the attack on the Sheverdino redoubt. The scenarios can be used with any ruleset on the battalion level. We hope you enjoy the format and the rules. Regards, Dale Wood |

I just bought the rules at Col Wars and have read through them. From what I have learned there are similarities between AOR and AON, but there are subtle diferences. For example in AOR, for Artillery Fire you needed to roll 12s to inflict a hit. IAON you roll on the Fire power value of the Artillery. However, I plan to try these rules soon. I'll let you know how they play. Personally I think that they will be fun. Oh yeah the figure scale is 1:30. Regards Shiloh1862 |
