I think this is the theatrical makeup style of painting. Like a stage actor's make up. Up close it looks overly done, but from a distance, like on wargame table, it makes the details stand out. The figures might better be show at games length. |

Tried viewing at table distance, you can't even see the lines, it looks like a solid colour. |

I agree with Bob. The figure size requires a "cartoony" painting style to work. I like it. |
