Seems like this could be an interesting read.

Bashytubits20 Nov 2015 11:50 p.m. PST

I agree it has been placed on my books to get list.

This is my re-assessment: link

I have a copy it is very good as you might expect from CD.

Winston Smith21 Nov 2015 11:24 a.m. PST

How is it different from his " The '45"?

Oh Bugger21 Nov 2015 4:17 p.m. PST

Much more detail of events at a local level.

darthfozzywig22 Nov 2015 2:25 p.m. PST

That's one expensive book.

coopman22 Nov 2015 5:07 p.m. PST

I don't know if I'd be able to retain my interest long enough to slog through it.

Bought this and 'Destructive & Formidable' last week and they were promptly confiscated by Lindsay for Christmas presents.

Royal Marine – great blog by the way.

ChargeSir23 Nov 2015 5:30 a.m. PST

I bought mine from Amazon and thought the price very good for the quality of the book and it's contents.

I am learning something new on every page , and you can tell he has wanted to do a rewrite of the 45 to bring it up to date with the latest. Research.

The real cost is going to be all those figures I have to paint up.

Oh Bugger23 Nov 2015 7:02 a.m. PST

Likewise and worth every penny.

Mute Bystander23 Nov 2015 8:18 a.m. PST

Wow, 680 pages! Did I read that right?

Not really a POI ("Period of Interest") so unlikely I will put down money but that is a truly impressive effort upon first appearance.

The linked game was quite interesting.

Waiting for my copy to arrive!

coopman23 Nov 2015 9:03 p.m. PST

I didn't have very much interest in this period until I saw the ad for this big fat book!

The '45 is pretty detailed as it is: as I recall pretty much every day's march is described (al least into England). It's 640 pages (including an appendix on the weather IIRC). I'm swithering on this one…

Oh Bugger24 Nov 2015 6:51 a.m. PST

True enough but the level of detail in this one is on another level all together. For example the Keelmen of Newcastle were Jacobites and plotted to take the castle. Taking the two books together this is the definitive work on the subjsct of our generation.
