This is a great idea, and more miniatures companies should do the same, IMHO.

It is a pain in the neck to have to go through this determination each time a line of minis come out, and few things are more frustrating to me than getting some good looking minis only to find that their size/heft is so far from the rest of the minis I use that they are immediately trade bait.

Nice mini that fits in well with a lot of other manufacturers, thanks for posting the comparison.

Fourth those comments. Greatly appreciated and glad to know they fit well with some of those manufacturers I have too!

These look great!

Ooh that is great, they look to fit in very well with my Brookes and Mongrel figures

Arkoudaki18 Nov 2009 4:20 a.m. PST

They look like a match for TAG and Mongrel.

Is it just me, or do those figure look like a bunch of guys ranging from 6ft 3in on the left, through lots of 6ft to 5ft 10in in the middle to 5ft 6in at the right hand size?

Exactly the same bunch of guys I regularly game with…

If the weapons are roughly the same size I'm ok with all of 'em being in the same unit

I agree John T. Equipment sizes aside I frankly don't "get" the issue over size. I find sculpting style is far, far more important in determining whether or not two figures will mix well.

I don't mind different height figs, but it is the equipment and sculpting style that makes the difference. If a group of figs are armed with AK-47s, then they should all look about the same, but it jumps out at me when one has a massive gun, and the other has a midget gun.

The other problem is when you have some figs that are sculpted with over accentuated proportions or details, and then some with very muted details. Those look awkward together.

With that said though, unless the figs are vastly different, it is rather hard to see on the tabletop.

I just received in the mail my sample figure from Christian Bzay the owner of RedStar miniatures. The figure is over 1 inch in height and no flash and very crisp. I put him next to one of my Devil Dog design figs and he is smaller all the way round next to DDD, tiny almost. I then pulled out one of my Mongrel miniatures 1980's US Marine and the RedStar figure was smaller then the Mongrel fig. I think that they will probably be on the same scale as Eureka modern range. I think the range looks great so I am waiting for the Chechens to come out and I will start buying them up since I always wanted to do this conflict. One word about Mongrel miniatures they had two different sculptors so the Russian that is on the page is smaller then the rest of their lines.

Sorry to said that Irish Marine, but I have here the Mongrel Russian, British, Afghan and Israeli and they are all of the same size. The US Marine are the only of their ranges slightly different in size. I think the new Red Star goes pretty well with the Mongrel. The difference is more in the sculpt style than in the size.

So will anyone be stocking these in the UK, and if so, will they have them at the 'Warfare' show in Reading this weekend?

Red Star Miniatures20 Nov 2009 10:33 a.m. PST

Sorry Arkoudaki but Red Star Miniatures is really a very small company (two peoples) and we do not take any benefit in it. We do this by pure pleasure and we do not have sufficient margin at the moment to have stockist in the UK or elsewhere. So we sell exclusively on our internet site and do our best to keep the postage cost minimal. Nevertheless we hope to be at Salute next year.

Christian
