Don't know how good the rules are, but those paper ships look really nice! |

At what point do you stop playing miniatures and start playing a board game. This is sort of a hybrid? |

Take a look at the actual figures and you will see that they are far from being tokens i have the Wars of the Roses and it is superb and offers a quick and low cost means of getting a game on the table The rules by Andy Callan are good but given that the figures are on unit bases rules like Hail Caesar or Impetus can easily be adapted

Like the ships. I have not been hooked on the soldiers but the ships are neat. I am a bit uncomfortable with making them however. |

The Roman Invasion book arrived on Monday. Artwork is brilliant, they just keep getting better. Allen57 There was a post awhile back where thin plywood was used to stiffen the the cutouts. Would that help you build the ships ? |

kodiakb, I would be interested in the post. I can not see how you could use plywood. Never seen any thin enough cut such detail easily. |

I think this is a great idea, and a good gift for someone just starting out, or a long time game wanting to try a new period without forking out a fortune. very tempted by this myself. |

I did my copies using 200gsm card as it provides greater rigidity. they take a little longer to cut out than using paper but not much longer. |

Allen57 For the life of me I can't find the post so it must have been on a blog. Two things I do recall, Home Depot was mentioned and $10. USD A search on Home Depot show 1/8th ply for $9.99 USD. Still not the easiest thing to cut so the fella cut an irregular shaped top to each stand then used some blue washes to hint at a sky. While I was looking for the blog another option came up on Helion's own blog. Soda cans ! Much cheaper and easier to source and cut. You also don't have to transport an 8ft x 4ft board home in the first place. |

You could also use a thin sheet of basswood or balsa wood between each side of the figure. Use a pin for registry marks and glue down and cut. I've done that before with some creatures for a D&D game and it worked a treat! |
