is this essentially the same as the GW one? It sounds very simular. If so i want a brown one….

Pizzagrenadier20 Nov 2008 7:08 a.m. PST

I doubt it, it mentions flock, not static grass like the GW ones.

Man, this again. 6x4 is NOT 100x150. Which is the actual size of these mats?

Lentulus20 Nov 2008 7:43 a.m. PST

Good point, the converted dimensions are *very* different.

wehrmacht20 Nov 2008 8:02 a.m. PST

Keith, it specifically says it's *not* flock, actually…

"The mats are beautifully textured without the use of flock"

Not sure what exactly that means…

Yeah, 6' x 4' would convert to 182.88 cm x 121.92 cm. grin

Here are some nice picks on the the Warstore site.

Wehrmacht: Ohh, I misread that thinking it said WITH the use of flock.

Not sure exactly what "without flock" means either…

If these are the mats I've seen used at a few local games, they are a heavy felt material with a blend of colors. They are very similar to some of the more expensive felt material you can buy at a good fabric store, but heavier. Heavy weight felt is not overly cheap, especially the mixed color type like this, so these are still not a bad deal. Maybe the Warstore folks can give their thoughts when they see this thread if they know of any special properties of these mats that set them apart. I'm not trying to disparage their product at all, just responding to the previous questions with what I have seen. For those that like felt and are not as fond of static grass or flocking, these should work out great.

Personally, I prefer a little bit more texture, so I will stay with flocked mats.

Have a good one,

Jeff

EDITED -- I wrote the above before JRacel posted.

From the pictures on the WarStore site, it looks like green outdoor carpeting -- a lighter green base color than is tyical but that same kind of interwoven mix (mottled?) of color with black, producing a variable pattern that looks somewhat like a birds-eye-view of grass (or dirt). And (I'm guessing) it appears to be the same kind of weave that is resistant to snagging. From the pictures the mat rolled up, it is not as thick as typical outdoor carpeting, which would make it more manageable but still durable.

Sounds like a pretty decent gaming surface, actually.

I saw these at Fall In. The two I saw were both a heavy felt material. It also seemed a bit tougher than felt. Seems to me wouldn't 'pil' as much… but that's just a guess.

I saw two colors: one was the standard grass green color and the other was a WWII German dark yellow/green/brownish mix of fibers. It appeared to me a good Fall color mix.
