magnificent pieces!

They are gorgeous.

Are they the same height / vertical scale as other buildings in the Big Battalion Napoleonics range? I'm asking as I have Adlers which are slightly taller than other ranges.

You guys do some really nice work. It's just too bad that getting this stuff shipped to the US is more then I'm willing to pay.

I'm in the U.S., and have purchased their 20mm and 6mm range. I didn't think the shipping was bad, and the parcel arrived quickly. However, that was when one could buy them painted. As good as the resin casting appears, their painting skills are every bit as good.

I put my intended order in and I got $49 USD shipping. I just can't do it.

I've been wondering, since most model buildings tend to be a bit small for their scale, if these would work for 3mm just as well? The village set-up is exactly what I've been looking for…

First f all they are beautiful pieces in their own right keeping with TBM's commitment to quality The "small foot print " is a means to produce spectacularly beautiful pieces for both shipping and production purposes It is however continuing the trend to take 6mm battles from tactical to strategic encouraging moving dioramas as set out in rule sets like Blucher and Polemos. For example several of the models are smaller then the suggested size for Blucher unit cards

The Small Foot Print discourages tactical battles as you now can no longer place troops in or near the building It requires some form of recording to show who is fighting who and to record the effects of combat.

Personally I am undecided as to whether I want to buy them or not If I do I will have to change or at least adopt many of the concepts on how I game For me it means a switch from a tactical to a strategic style of gaming

Toro – I see your point, but oh my these do look VERY nice. As a 1/72 gamer I use smaller scale buildings and am not really interested in teh tactical occupation of buildings (as my units are 1:20). But if one wanted to go 1:1 then I imagine bigger buildings would be needed. But personally I favour an abstracted morass of a FiBUA melee, where neither commander really knows what is going on in the swirling maelstorm of town fighting.

Lovely buildings and concept. Shame not painted – who does a painting service for this size building?

As to whether I would ever use these models or not is really pointless as to the purpose of the add -- there are many things/products I may or may not collect because of personal needs,preferances, tastes,etc. Now as to the purpose of the add -- these are outstanding little models by any standards!!

Well if you cannot put troops in their villages shapes… Do your own and get the buildings separate?
These look very good.
As I am in 15, I'd wait for an hypothetical big 10 version of these as big 6mm would be too much of a scale difference.

They look fabulous! Would love to see them alongside some 6mm and 10mm troops for comparison purposes.

Very nice. I particularly like the small footprint of TBM models as they suit grand-tactical games.

I find they suit 6mm and 10mm figures very well but would be too tall for 3mm IMHO.

Aren't these a new line though? Lot's of terrain is actually small compared to the actual scale it's supposed to be in, which means these might actually be "true" for a scale smaller. I'd have to see a piece in person and take some measurements to tell for certain though. An expensive experiment! Man oh man, those do look really nice, especially the village pieces.

Wow! I doubt I'd ever have a use for it but for the scale that is absolutely amazing!

The base sizes (X x Y mm) are all listed on the website for each item in the range.

Ok, so I took a more indepth look at the figs. The 4 story village building is on a 30mm x 30mm base, and if you take a piece of paper and mark it off it turns out the pop-up picture is actual life-size. That is, the base is 30mm on the screen. Divide that by 3mm and you get ten man-sized lengths. Let's say that 5.5 feet was the average height in 1815, so that works out to 30mm=55 feet. Taking that upwards puts the 4th story window at 55 feet and the peak of the building at around 60 or 65 feet. Anyone with experience- does that sound too tall for a 4 story building from the period?

Doing the same thing at 6mm, that puts the building at about 30-35 feet tall, which for 4 stories seems rather short, in fact… but like I said, almost all buildings are short at their stated scale.

This is one of many 6mm Total Battle buildings in my collection. I love them and think they work nicely.

I have one of their 20mm buildings and they are great, but they never go on sale and the shipping is ridiculous!!! oh well, I did like that church

The 6mm buildings are beautiful and well suited to 10mm scale figures as well. Definitely not suitable for 3mm, as Alan said.

I have some of the 28mm buildings too. The farm complex is superb.

Well, they got back to me. It's a no-go on 3mm. The response was very classy though, clearly a Top Rate company to do business with. They recommended I make buildings from balsa wood, which I had been thinking about anyways. Looks like I'd better get myself a jig saw!

Perhaps a trip across to the 1870 Yahoo group might give you some ideas. It's file section includes a guide by Bruce Weigle on how he does the buildings for his 6mm figures. They are slightly under scale for 6mm, and might work for you?

Does anyone know how to contact Mr. Weigle? I'd rather like to talk to him about a few specifics.

Never mind, I figured it out I think. He just used balsa from hobby shops in different shapes to make the roofs and such, and probably some triangular plastic tubing as well. Some of the buildings he scratch built are really impressive. I'll be picking some materials up myself soon.

Well deserved praise. For me, the very best part of this range is the provision of four different types of Church of a style common through most of Western Europe. In particular the double pitch spire is something I have been looking for for ages. Oh, and I have to have that Ligny Chateau, although I don't know why, or what I'll do with it! That is a tribute to the quality of the product. My only regret is that you no longer provide the models painted. I understand why, but I would probably bankrupt myself with this range if you did!
