I may have to get these, as they seem to utilize the binomial dice mechanism I've been fiddling with for a while now (but never getting anywhere in the writing of actual RULES to use it). Looks interesting! Doug |

Super System comes to mind. It was where I got the original idea for Ancients D6…at least some of it. If done right this could be a pretty simple and fun game. |

To go with these new rules, we are giving our fantasy ranges a complete overhaul to provide as much variety as possible. The new ranges will feature larger packs of 25 assorted infantry, twelve assorted cavalry, or three guns with crews, each priced at £4.50 GBP GBP per pack. All of these packs contain maximum variety, with no two figures being the same! Phil Lewis has spent a huge amount of time sculpting these, changing weapons, adding shields, cloaks or pouches, to make every figure different to the last. As far as we know, this level of variety has not been seen before in this scale, so we're really looking forward to getting these released and out there to complement the new rules! This sounds very interesting. Maybe I need to get over my frustration with the state of 6mm fantasy (don't like the goofy Warhammer-esque style of Microworld's figures, don't find the Baccus range wide enough, and simply don't want to use Irregular) and accept that 10mm is where the party's at for small-scale large-scope massed battle fantasy. Though I'd still pick 6mm in a heartbeat if a range with a pleasing style and plenty of variety came along. Hell, I could imagine doing it in 3mm if the figures were to Oddzial Osmy's level of quality. |

It's worth noting that the people who publish the Sword & Spear rules also have a skirmish called "Warband", though designed for historical dark age and medieval. link |

don't find the Baccus range wide enough, and simply don't want to use Irregular) I've found the Irregular fantasy line to be a really mixed bag. There are some that are outstanding, and others that … well … not so much to someone accustomed to Baccus. But between what IS available (and what's good of what's available), and what you can do with the wide ranges of historicals, don't give up on 6mm! Doug |

Still, if the people at Pendraken are overhauling their fantasy range to give each troop type 25 different sculpts if infantry or 12 if cavalry (even if much of it will consist of weapon/shield swaps and the addition of bits and bobs like cloaks and pouches on otherwise identical poses), they're taking it to a whole new level. I applaud it. One might hope this will become a new standard that will trickle down a bit to 6mm. The traditional (IMO mistaken) mentality seems to be that with figures that small, "no one will even notice" if a whole unit consists of the same one or two poses. I notice. So, although I tend to view 10mm as a somewhat awkward in-between of 6mm and 15mm (despite the fact that I play Heavy Gear Blitz which is an even more awkward 12mm), I'll be watching Pendraken closely with a view to re-evaluating my old preconceptions. |
