I really don't understand someone caring enough to design the ships and make them available to us all (thank you, by the way) and not putting up a photo, or even a render, of the models. I guess you can download the STL and preview it quick enough, but how much trouble is a photo? Show it painted and you'll get more interest.

I am grateful for everyone who has created STL files and shared them for free. This is a great boon to our hobby. I want to stress this at the outset.

But by mens of a review, I have a few quibbles with these ships.

First, there is very little ancient art to support a row of shields along the gunwales of a classical warship. Since there are fifteen of them over a stretch that should be about ninety feet they are each six feet across. That could be artistic license, since if they were the proper size they might be just little bumps. I would not quibble with there being twenty oars per side, since these oars are going to paint easy and look good and anyone who counts oars is crazy. But the shields shouldn't be there in the first place.

Second, there's a supporting skin under the forward curve of the sternpost. I think you could get around this by printing the ships at an angle or using different kinds of supports. But the skin breaks up the lines of the ship.

Other than that they look like they would print easily and paint up nicely. This is a good set of five files with variations.

I do not understand what this is/ Is it a file of cut out ships or plans to make ships?

This title contains .stl files for using a 3D printer to make the ships.

@Andrew – thanks for the feedback. I added the shields along the sides to increase the visual distinctiveness between these and my more "regular" Athenian triremes. The sternpost support is there not so much for printing as for ruggedness in action – I've found that resin printed models with unsupported sternposts are quite vulnerable to damage and snapping off, so I sacrificed a bit of accuracy for survivability :)

On the shields front I'll amend the file with a set of models that don't include them. If you don't like them after that then I will of course offer a full refund :)

Andrew Walters: actually I believe there is a farly strong consensus among historians/archeologists that Phoenician ships did in fact have shields hanging on from gunwales. This is based on several sources both literary and on paintings, vases, models etc.
These shield would not get in the way of rowers because of the different structures of phoenician ships, which had an additional deck with bullwarks which is were shields would be hanging from.
This is why I also added shields when designing my range, and also made an effort to underline other differences fro the Greek trireme design. You can get more details here if you care link
On the subject of the size of shield, well.. I did not see David's ships but mine definitely show quite outsized shields! But as you said, with realistic proportion you would need a microscope to spot them…
David, we syncronized!
