Not sure if my count is perfect, but I believe that makes 208 different poses of cavalry – cavalry! – released just this week (see earlier post of new cavalry a few days ago). Wow. And people complain Blue Moon doesn't release fast enough. Try going to any other supplier and getting that many poses of cavalry for one conflict. Any conflict. In any scale. You'd be hard put, very hard put, to find that many poses of infantry, methinks.

And not just any conflict but, in my opinion, the conflict that defines miniatures gaming – the Seven Years War. Diversity of troops, colorful uniforms, reasonable options for ground scale to troop strengths – relatively, and great time line playability. None of that four hours of WWII or moderns of play time that equals five minutes of real time nonsense.

Great job. The only problem is that it tempts me towards getting back involved in the period and I really need to be downsizing in a dramatic way rather than doing any upsizing.

I am just wondering if there is a problem with the labelling; I am a little dubious about Chevaux Legers in bearskins…

Jcfrog27 Nov 2014 10:02 a.m. PST

YES

one note to be checked (I don't have the doc handy around)
Doubt the Gendarmerie (de France or maison du Roi) carried carbines, nor had cardridge pouches and then only one shoulder strap.

Jcfrog27 Nov 2014 10:06 a.m. PST

Chokidar: no they are right, chevau-légers (right spelling) were original light because the gendarme were true heavies in the 16/17th cty. So Americanized translation is roughly Ok.

Fitz-james + Royal-allemand at least initially bought their own.

Chokidar27 Nov 2014 10:17 a.m. PST

Jcfrog,

agreed up to a point on the spelling – although you will find other versions – but not on the substance. Yes – there was the generic "light horse" but the Chevaux Legers were also a specific regiment of the French Guards – la Maison du Roi – and in addition towards the end of the Seven Years War – although possibly earlier – some of the Compagnies des Gendarmes of the Royal Household converted to Chevaux Legers – none of these units had bearskins.

The french cavalry, exeption maison du roi and gendarmerie, were called chevaux Legers.
In the Maison du Roi was one company and in the Gendarmerie some 6 (?) companies of chevaus leger.
They had the same uniform as the "normal" Maison du roi and gendarmerie companies so had no bearskin.
But these figures are "line" troops afaik.

PS, can command figures ordered seperately when some are incorporated in a pack of cavalry??

Jcfrog27 Nov 2014 10:51 a.m. PST

Niet

Cheveau-legers de la maison/ de la garde are not regiments but squadrons and it does not change the point; this is the official name.
These are just names; for minis, he does the more or less long straight coat of most of these guys which allows to do both Gendarmerie et maison. Good for us.
In their packaging, no one would buy 15 mousquetaires or grenadiers a cheval… probably.

And in post 18th cty French there is only one proper way to write it, one of those special words with a non regulation plural in French.

Blue-moon is right.
the light horse who are heavies or vice-versa allows endless jokes (easier in French)especially when one fails in combat.

Then if some one with doc can check the dress and carbines, OG and the gamers would be reconnaissants.

A nos chevaux, a nos femmes, aux escaliers et a ceux qui les montent!
unofficial toast of the French cavalry.

And some wonder why producers shy from the seven years war …… ?????

Instead of all doing the same stuff and wondering sometimes why it does not work.

Do the funny small stuff like what listed every one doing this or that army will get one.
more expensive as mixed pack

SYW/WAS grenadiers a cheval 3 figures+ Mousquetqires 6 figures price of 15.

Hessian horse grenadiers 9 for 15 same story

I know some want them but a lot of the legions/ lights have place in battles.if people inssist then Freitag mix pack of 8 foot and 4 horse & pricey.

Fischer/Conflans same

Legion Royale etc same

legion britannique same

for WAs Grassins 8 on foot

if anyone actually has the space to do them with lots more figs, let them buy several packs.

of course generals…

same story with some of the funny stuff from AWI.

It won't matter for buyers as they will have the equivalent of 3-5 packs in all for their army as extra price for the uncommon stuff.

Can do the same for some Napys that are actually found in many OOB
Portuguese legion.

Saxon/Westphalian Jaegers

Italian gardes d'honneur (instead of trying to collect lancer officers etc.)

28th foot brit

71st RHli

Württemberg horse artillery

argh I long to be able to get my toys out again and get loads of new ones.
