I don't get what this is? Is it a play by mail or computer game or solo or what? Looks interesting, but what the heck? |

It says it uses VASSAL which is a computer program that lets you play tabletop games either by email or live. vassalengine.org |

I am tempted to buy one just to try to explain it to folks. I have dabbled with Vassal over the years but never found the time to actually play with it. Vassal is simply a software package that lets you design a game map or copy one in from a printed set. There are hundreds of board games that have digitized on Vassal and you can download them for free. Then you move the pieces around the map on your computer almost as you would using a traditional board game. When the counters come into combat you work that out yourself or you can select a random dice generator that is built in. This system is mostly used fore e-mail play as you can send the moves to friend to open and make his move which he will send back to you. This is not a computer game in the traditional sense. So I find it interesting that with all these comments about theses postings the author (s) have never commented. Chris |

Those announcements come from the RSS feed, and since the author does computer games he may likely not even know TMP exists. Wargame Vault offers lots of different kinds of games and accessories, but the RSS feed doesn't filter them by miniatures or tabletop games, it just sends out the newest or featured titles. That's also why we have so many announcements here, some of which are not miniatures related. We have hundreds of authors and publishers who offer new products all the time, and they all go on the RSS feed. When other news is slow, TMP picks up new news from those feeds. |

That is a good explanation at least to the amount of postings the Vault Places. |

Yeah, we actually only "place" two announcements a year usually, when we have our two sales a year. All the rest are automatic from the RSS feed. |

So how well does Vassal work for setting up a campaign? As an example, a map gets created, units placed on the map, moved until in contact, and then play it out on the table top. It seems the software is for free, yet can a person design their own game from the software? Or does there need to be a module purchased to be able to have a map, and make the system work? |

Thanks for the explanation. |

If you have a look at vassal.org I think there are hundreds of board games ready. I do believe you can create the results in a mini game. just haven't gotten past installing and reading the setup. many many games are already done. |

GLW what do you mean by update twice a year when we have our sale? Also are you The Vault person or the Napoleonic person or neither? just for clarity regarding your replies. TY |

Normally we only "manually" place a news story when we have a site-wide sale twice a year, although we do occasionally place one when we have something special on site. The rest all come off the RSS feed. And yes, I'm The Vault guy! |

Thank you for the clarity. |
