I don't get/understand this. What do you need a model plane for if you are playing on a computer?

Yeah, I'm kinda going "Huh?", too.

But that may be because the press release is confusing, and doesn't really explain what either the ePawn device is, or what the app is supposed to do.

I'm left thinking it's some sort of large touch- sensitive display that acts as a game mat and records/displays the maneuvers you choose on a paired device using an app, and then the app perhaps acts as a damage tracker/display too?

If so, while that's a neat idea, I'm not sure it's got any advantage over the card approach.

Not sure, but my guess is that ePawn is an online "world" with a big digital map. Your smartphone controls a plane on that map. The entire system uses a digital version of the cards…i.e. pick your maneuver "cards" on your smartphone and the ePawn system moves your plane, calculates firing and damage, and so on.

The advantage, like any internet-based gaming system (World of Warcraft, World of Tanks, etc), is that you can play against the entire world.

Mind you, that's my guess and may be completely wrong. The component in the picture looks like a 8.5x11" pad of some sort and small aircraft models in the background that may do something else, perhaps some sort of 3D scan before and after every move, in which case I am as baffled as you are what it does…but it sure seems like it is an internet-connected app of some sort.

I suspect they mean you are purchasing the "stat cards", "maneuver cards", etc. for the various aircraft, since without those you can't play the game. Presumably too, you get the little "icons" that look like the model of the plane you are flying, for your electronic device.

Looks, and sounds interesting, but I suspect this is going to be expensive with a capital "E".

Yea, remote gaming will be possible with this, which is neat.

As you "play" your "cards", I suspect the little aircraft icons on the screen move to their new positions, on the map, just as if you were playing with real models.

I don't understand it either, but I don't think they are going to get far in the English-speaking world with a product called ePawn….

It looks like an electronic game mat, with smart device-controlled 'bots' on the mat.

From one of the background clips showing on that site, I think Car Wars, or some other "driving" game would be a better fit than an air combat game.

Yep, looks interesting but several questions that are not answered.

So the future of WoG and other similar games e.g. SoG could see several players all just sitting in a group at shows staring at their phones or tablets? This might appeal to the younger generation weaned on computers but I don't think it'll do much for us dyed in the wool old timers who prefer the hands on models approach.

Very hard to understand write up in this news story. Until Mr Canuck posted a link and that link had a video, I was lost. ePawn? Odd name but obviously based on a chess pawn, moving 'e'-lectronically. ePawn…. um…
