If I didn't know better, I would think that the timing of this is aimed specifically at Battlefront's recent WWI offerings.

Is there a scale war going on here?

Over 40 Mark IVs were put into German service, providing German players something different to field in addition to their trusty A7Vs!

"Trusty A7Vs?" Has someone been reading too much of their own or their competitor's propaganda?

But it is a very nice looking vehicle, albeit a little too expensive for my pocket book.

I don't think a scale war. Probably more to do with the 100th Anniversary of the start of the war.

kallman29 Aug 2014 1:46 p.m. PST

I agree with LTC Reinwald just as we have seen a plethora of War of 1812 miniatures crop up because of renewed interest due the 200th anniversary the same is going on in regards WW I for the 100th anniversary.

If you want a real scale war there are 2 different companies bringing out 1/35 scale Mk IVs this year! Twice the price of the Bolt Action model but the Tamiya version comes with supporting infantry and can be motorised.

Heavy sarcasm hence the exclamation mark. In hindsight it probably wasn't layered on heavily enough…

This is certainly nothing to do with those Kiwi purveyors of 15mm wares – purely a natural progression of our existing WWII line timed nicely with the anniversary of the Great War.

Cheers,

When the Battlefront MkIVs were released the collective wisdom was that there weren't any MkIV hermaphrodites, it was a feature that started with the MkV. Was that correct, or were there mixed MkIVs as well?

Prof Pate30 Aug 2014 3:12 a.m. PST

Don't know about the hermaphrodite issue but they ate really, really nicely painted.

This IWM film clip claims to show a Mark IV hermaphrodite link and David Fletcher mentions one here link in the Osprey book on Mark IVs

Good news if true – I made some Mk IV Hermaphrodites a while back and ever since have been told they didn't exist :)

Big ditto to VonMoltke on the need for plastic infantry. Is there a Great War supplement in store for Bolt Action?

A set of crewmen would be nice for situations when they bail out which was quite often from what I've seen on TV about the reliability of these behemoths.

klingsor30 Aug 2014 2:15 p.m. PST

Victrix have plastic Great War infantry in the pipeline. Mind you if they are the only ones I would be very surprised.

No, there was no MkIV Hermaphrodite. The film clip shows MkV tanks. David Fletcher only says "Maybe" and I was surprised when I first read that; there is no supporting evidence.

Some Male MkIV tanks had their sponsons removed to be used on Female MkV and MkV* tanks, turning those into Composites, but the MkIV hull was then used as a Supply Tank (if it was useable).

Sorry, David, but they really did not exist. But like I've said, if you had fun making them, if they make you happy, what's wrong with that?!

This discussion lists all the relevant sources I have found (and more)and while it may be impossible to rule out the possibility of a few being created at some point there is no evidence of any being made which is a shame.
