Detailed and accurate depiction of ancient warfare Not provable unless you were there

Neither is it dis-provable :) (If that is a word!) |

Why no MacOS or Linux release? |

If I wasn't up to my armpits in recoding the website, I'd love to give this one a try

What Bill? Just watch the movie "The Net" to give you some pointers on shortcuts! "Begin Hacking Program" and so forth. I'm sure there are simple commands like these to export TMP to the new DB. Yeah. That's it! |

I'll give it a go if they make a Mac version. |
| the evil morlab | 19 Nov 2009 11:21 a.m. PST |
cool, will need to give this a try. it would be extra cool if it was like the tabletop game, as then you could practice solo and then know the game better for miniature battles. |

Hi- I've been playing the beta for the last month I heartily endorse this game very fun also supports remote opponents |

"Why no MacOS or Linux release?" With 200,000 products sold (and it is not clear if they mean rulebooks only or army books included) it is a matter of economics: the mac/linux crowd just is too small to make it worth the money. This still is a niche market and max/linux gamers are a niche within that one. |

Neither is it dis-provable :) (If that is a word!) Which is irrelevant because the onus is on Slitherine to prove the truth of their claims in advertising. See also the comments above about the vagueness of what is meant by 200,000 products sold. And previous threads on TMP about the nature of being "award-winning". One thing is certain: that like all computer wargames, the AI will be pants. |

With 200,000 products sold (and it is not clear if they mean rulebooks only or army books included) Actually, it is clear that the number refers to the total for all FoG-branded books sold: link and TMP link Cheers, Scott |

Actually, it is clear that the number refers to the total for all FoG-branded books sold: link and TMP link No matter how you slice it, the game has sold very well for a tabletop miniatures game. I've read a few good things about the game. I am curious how well the AI plays? One thing I've been told is that the AI seems to bunch up a little. That comes from a BETA tester though so this may have been fixed with the final version. |

Graphics are very weak from the screenshots I've seen. Might still try it. |
| Zagloba | 19 Nov 2009 2:36 p.m. PST |
Looking at the screenshots, the question is not "Why PC only?" but "Why isn't this a Flash game?" If you're not going to be focused on 3D graphics power, then I would think hosting this on the web would make a lot more sense. Rich |

I'm tempted by this to help with my understanding of the tabletop game. |

I have played this-don't know if it will help with your understanding of tabletop game
all rolls automatically done behind the scenes
.very good game though |
| athousandhats | 20 Nov 2009 4:57 a.m. PST |
@ThorLongus I was thinking it might help to get a feel for the relative strengths and weaknesses of armies/units and to try 'what ifs' that would otherwise take a lot of games/theorising on the tabletop. |
| Vosper | 20 Nov 2009 6:27 a.m. PST |
I think it looks neat. Just might give it a try. |

I've been playing the beta – its not any help in understanding the rules or playtesting – its just too unlike the miniatures game. If you enjoy the type of games that hexwars make you might like it. I prefer highly produced games myself. Steve |
| fullerena | 20 Nov 2009 10:36 a.m. PST |
Are those really the unit graphics? Bleh. They look terrible – even basic symbols or simple sprites would produce a better visual effect. Hopefully they're moddable
and I play roguelikes & dwarf fortress, so I can't really complain about graphics. Disappointing, though. |
| Shardik | 22 Nov 2009 3:56 p.m. PST |
I wouldn't be interested unless it was a replica of the miniature game, and transparent dice rolls too so you know *why* you lost the melee etc. In other words, I'd like it to be as true to the mini game as DBAonline is. |
Bobgnar | 23 Nov 2009 11:34 a.m. PST |
If only DBA Online were true to the current game. Indeed, it does not follow all the conventions of the old game. Anyway, for digital FOG, I am another Mac user who will not be playing. |

Looks interesting. The graphics are fine with me, but it's been decades since I've played computer wargames, mainly because of the near demise of turn based games. I've been frustrated with lack of nearby opponents, especially for ancients & medievals, so I may have to look into this. (Hoping it will run on my laptop.) |
