"The U.S left vast amounts of equipment to the South Vietnamesece when it left VN. The Army alone left 3 mechanized divisions worth of inventory " sorry to be blunt in what world? The Army had no mechanized divisions in Vietnam. There was the 11th ACR, the 1st Brigade, 5th Infantry division (1 armor, 1 mechanized one airmobile battalion) and the 4th, 9th and 25th Infantry had their own organic mech battalion (for a whopping total of 6 mech battalions) and two armor battalion. While considerable numbers of Tanks (M48A3) and APC (M113) were left behind these were worn and barely usable. The 25th Division maintenance people were already complaining about the state of their own vehicles in the preparation of the incursion into Cambodia. Maybe one day i will be surprised and found some people researching before posting on TMP the bulk of the riverine assets was turned over to the RVN Navy starting in December 1968 and ending in December 1970. Several crafts were shipped back to the states and some PBR were still active in panama in the 80'. |
