Hostile Space

A space mecha combat game where the focus is on maneuver within three-dimensions.

It is the dawn of The New Age for humanity as the Solar System has been colonized with the help of the Fold Drive. Four great powers hold humanity together by cooperating through an extra-governmental organization called the Concert of the Solar System. Between the Great Powers an assortment of Free Holds, or small colonies; struggle for survival in the shadow of the Great Powers. The Great Powers compete for their spheres of influence with these Free Holders to gain commercial and political benefit within the Concert. It is a time of cut-throat colonial rivalry and Great Power tensions. It is a time of conflict.

In games of Hostile Space, players will manage and maneuver two to twelve units per side that represent combat suits, interceptors, support ships, and more. This is a small-scale, model-vs-model level of engagement where the fighting is up close and personal. The focus is on engaging and evading by pivoting, turning, moving and changing heights while managing your fire arcs and ammo. Mechanics are resolved using six-sided dice, maneuver cards, and measurement for tactical game play. Life is cheap compared to hardware.

The primary design goals for the game are:

  • Scale and model agnostic – use the models you want to use
  • Maneuver is critical
  • Player skill in piloting the units of the game is key
  • Death can come from any direction, up, down, left, right, behind, or straight ahead!
  • A campaign system where you can create and build your own Ace pilots
  • Military-focused mecha; not super-robot, Kaiju, or over-the-top mecha
