Romans

We are really pleased to announce the release of our third and fourth 28mm hard plastic, multi-pose Ancients sets for 2014 – Rome's Legions of the Republic (I) and (II).

Romans I

The detail of these sets is simply stunning. We do believe that these are the best sets we have made to date, as the crispness and sharpness of the clothing and faces, down to buckles on straps, is superb. A huge thanks goes to the guys doing the tooling on these. They may be late, but worth the wait!

Romans II

Each set contains 60 miniatures for only £29.95 GBP, which is less than £0.50 GBP per figure. You get 36 legionaries, 18 Velites, three Centurions, and three standardbearers in the box. There are options for all with pilums (upright or throwing options), sword arms, and long thrusting spear options. There are twelve Legionary head variants, plus ten Velite head options and wolfskin capes. On the subject of the wolfskins, they really are well detailed. We spent a long time getting a good depth of detail into these, and also into the folds of the tunics. These will take paint washes and drybrushing very well, for those who like to use those methods.

Shield transfers

Steve has been busy creating shield transfers for the new range. We have 14 sheets of Legionary designs so far with more to be added, plus Velite sheets are coming soon. The detail on these transfers is fabulous, even down to the highlights of flaking and damaged paint work.

If you go to the news section of our website, you can see some units pieced together. We will update the images with painted versions, as soon as we get them back from the painters.

Next release will be the Italian Allied Legions. We have been informed we will get test frames of these at the end of next week, so they will be released in about two to three weeks. These are going to be a really useful and versatile set.

The Carthaginian sculpting is near completion, and we will have some images next week of the Libyan Spearmen in linothorax armor.
