Wargaming for Grown Ups Are Pleased to Announce the Release of Their Latest Publication – Spartans & Successors!

Spartans & Successors

In keeping with previous publications, these offer an original and innovative take on the subject, this time being the Golden Age of Greece and Macedon. Written as a simple set of rules that can be played on a kitchen table, they are to be played with DBA-sized armies, and use a unique movement and combat system using standard playing cards. Unlike other card-driven systems, the cards don't simply decide unit movement order or play a minor role in the game. This is a diceless system. No more will you need to worry about your D6 rolling on the floor.

Each player uses their own deck of cards, which is played through twice. This evens out the effects of luck, as both players use identical decks. The game has a high decision count in each turn. You can't just roll the dice and hope for the best. Cards are played face down, then revealed individually as players attempt to bluff their opponents where their main blow is about to fall. Described by one tester as: "best model of fatigue I've yet seen in a wargame," players need to manage their resources to ensure that they stay in the game, as well as deploy them to defeat their opponent.

The game was originally designed to refight historical battles in a challenging and interesting way. The rules include twelve scenarios based on the great battles of Antiquity, from Marathon to Raphia via Alexander the Great's epic victories.

The rules cost £5.00 GBP, and are available from Amazon worldwide, or from Wargame Vault.

As with all our publications, the back page of the rules is a QRS.

Go on. Take the plunge. They're less than a box of figures. Even those cheap plastic 1:72 ones.
