Now is the time to book your place at the Society Convention (formerly known as the Conference).

We have another great program coming together. Here is a flavor:

  • Keynote speaker before dinner on the Saturday is Adrian Goldsworthy, well-known historian and author and a sometime contributor to Slingshot.
  • For those arriving on Friday, we will play some games that evening – we have Homeric Battles and a Never Mind the Billhooks planned among others.
  • Speakers during the days are Ian Russell-Lowell, Phil Steele and Matthew Bennett. All should need no introduction to Society members given their contributions to Slingshot and previous Society events over many years.
  • Ian is speaking about the Late Bronze Age and will afterwards run a workshop game of the latest incarnation of his rules, Rein-bow Warriors.
  • Matt will compare and contrast the leadership styles of Richard the Lionheart and his great rival Saladin.
  • Phil will discuss why wargaming the Crusades is in his view nearly (if not actually) impossible.
  • When it comes to games already signed up, Michael Lane will run another Ancient Naval Galley battle using his beautiful 1:600 models – this year Romans versus Seleucids but with the latter commanded by Hannibal!
  • There will be an all-weekend Caesarean extravaganza – a succession of games playing through the career (and a "what if…") of Julius Caesar – large games using 28mm figures and obviously using Hail Caesar! rules. This gives everyone a chance to play in one of the games – or indeed for Caesar fanatics to play in all the games!
  • We have a Wars of the Roses game using some newly developed rules.
  • There will be an I Claudius Battle of Brentwood based on the description in Robert Graves book "Claudius the God" set during the conquest of Britain – expect to see camels and giant heron!
  • I will be running my latest Macedonians in Persia game on a square-based rules system.
  • Nick Harbud will follow up his recent Slingshot article with a game The Teddy Bears' Picnic that will use 15mm figures and DBA rules with his own adaptations for fighting on wooded battlefields.

More games will be added soon.

So, get your booking made and we will see you there! We are delighted to say we are able to hold the prices at the 2022 level, as follows:
