Yes I am still an avid SFB player. I looked at Fed Comm, bought the first set and tried it out. For fleet scale SSDs it lets you play slightly larger battles quicker, and it had some nice ideas to use (less impulses for example). As an inveterate Hydran player the step away from fighters in initial releases lost me personally, for obvious reasons.

However, for big battles I actually go all the way to A Call to Arms: Starfleet because its better for big battles even than Fed Comm and for smaller ones I stay with SFB.

As such, Fed Comm fell into a gap for me, not enough streamlining to allow the really big fleet actions but too much for one on ones. I also am aware that as an existing SFB player with much of the material that I am not the target market for FedComm either. I can see it attracting new players much much more and if someone slaps it down and reminds me of the difference between FedComm and SFB I will happily play but I keep de-orbiting back to SFB – so electronic things that I do not have the paper version of are very useful to me.

Star Fleet Battles: Module R3 Rulebook 2017

Shipyards throughout known space are preparing even more new ships for service in the Star Fleet Universe!

Newly updated in 2017, this 58-page rulebook includes rules for Klingon penal ships. It also has the descriptions for the ships included in the R3 SSD books. These include ships for the Klingons (including D7, D6 and D5 variants; the SparrowHawk light cruiser from the Romulans; F6; and E5), Hydrans (including the Lord Bishop, Outrider and variants, war cruiser variants, and Iron Duke), Lyrans (including the Yaguarundi light carrier, Siberian Lion space control ship, and Prairie Cat survey ship), and WYN (including the orion-built double raider and the captured Klingon KE4).

It also has the following scenarios: Quarantine (Federation and Klingon), Justice Denied (WYN and Kzinti), Sacred (Kzinti and Lyran), Moment of Glory (Lyran and Hydran), Dictator's Diplomat (Federation, Klingon, and Romulan), and Radey to the Rescue (Federation and Klingon). Of course, it also has the section of the Master Ship Chart that pertains to the ships included.

This product describes additional ships for use in Star Fleet Battles. To fly the ships, you will need the SFB Module R3 SSD Book in either black-and-white or color. You must have the SFB Basic Set in order to utilize this material. You will need SFB Module C1: New Worlds I (or the SFB Master Rulebook) to use the Hydran, Lyran, and WYN ships. Some of the ships require the advanced missions set, or the SFB Master Rulebook.
