We've learned that Empires of Arcana - the campaign system for the Armies of Arcana game system - has been delayed due to printing problems.

Empires of Arcana is a stand-alone boardgame based on the Armies of Arcana game setting. "It's a bit like games such as Axis and Allies, Shogun or other such empire building games," says designer Thane Morgan, "but with some very significant differences. I believe those differences make the game faster to play while enhancing the strategic possibilities."

Thane's Games contracted the printing through Ryan Johnson, prepaying the entire amount. Unfortunately, the printer "really screwed it up" (according to Thane). Since Ryan Johnson has not refunded Thane's payment, the Empires of Arcana project is stalled until Thane can raise money for a second printing job.

We contacted Ryan Johnson to get his side of the story. His reply:

"I will say this much. There was a business transaction between myself (not the Guild of Blades) and Thane from Thane's Games for print consolidation services. Things didn't go smoothly. Still working on settling screw ups.

"On that matter, that is as much as I care to discuss. It's a private matter about a business deal gone bad.

"That being said, I would encourage you not to run with the article. However, if you decide to do so, I would highly suggest that you do not bring the Guild of Blades name into it, since that business had no part in the above mention business deal. Further, this is an issue I am getting rather sick of and a tad sensative regarding misinformation that is spreading regarding it. I can only imagine one source for that misinformation, which, of course, is doing nothing to better or conclude the situation. So if you decide to print something on this matter, be damn sure to print only facts. Anything that approaches libel will be addressed legally."
