THE PRUSSIAN LANDWEHR OF THE NAPOLEONIC WARS

PRUSSIAN LANDWEHR OF THE NAPOLEONIC WARS Enlarged 2nd edition. Large format. 160 full-color pages with over 700 illustrations. Illustrated throughout in color. This is the major work on the subject, exploring the uniforms, organization and equipment of the Landwehr, essential for Prussia to maintain her important contribution to the coalition effort to defeat Napoleon. Precise details of uniforms are difficult to sort out with the distance of time. Stephen presents the known information and resolves inconsistencies. This stunning publication includes photographs of original costume and delightful artwork. $68.00 USD

THE ART OF RENAISSANCE WARFARE: From The Fall of Constantinople to the Thirty Years War Tells the story of the knight during the 15th and 16th centuries – from the great victories of Edward III and the Black Prince to the fall of Richard III on Bosworth Field. During this period, new technology on the battlefield posed deadly challenges for the mounted warrior; but they also stimulated change, and the knight moved with the times. Having survived the longbow devastation at Crecy, Poitiers and Agincourt, he emerged triumphant, his armor lighter and more effective, and his military skills indispensable. $35.00 USD

PETER THE GREAT HUMBLED: The Russo-Ottoman War of 1711 In 1711, Peter the Great, the Tsar of Russia, led a large army of veterans from Poltava and his other Great Northern War victories into the Balkans. He aimed to humble the Ottomans in the same way he had the Swedes a few years before. Yet within a few months, the 'backward' Ottomans had forced the Tsar and his Tsarina and their army of veterans into a humbling surrender near the Pruth River. The war was the first time that Russia was strong enough to confront the Ottomans independently rather than as a member of an alliance. It marked an important stage in Russia's development. However, it also showed the significant military strength of the Ottoman Empire and the limitations of Peter the Great's achievements. $40.00 USD

WATERLOO LOGISTICS: Collected Papers and Maps of Major Archibald F Becke This is the book that tells you all of the chaotic stuff that happens when armies are set in campaign against each other. Even genius commanders founder under the problems of weather, terrain, communication, supply and other challenges. The book arose from several fascinating articles written by Becke as well as important chapters in his monumental history of Waterloo. To the text have been added a huge amount of maps, tables and OOBs. The result, in neat concise chapters, is a clarification of why things happened the way they did. It is the perfect companion to all other reading. Includes 60 maps, 54 tables, and 41 orders of battle. $45.00 USD

WITH CRAUFURD IN BUENOS AIRES 1807: A Personal Account by an Officer of the 36th Foot This excellent account was first published by the South and Central American Military Historians Society but such is its importance that it needs this new edition. The 36th Regiment formed part of the reinforcements under Craufurd which arrived at Montevideo on June 14th, 1807. Many of the troops had been cooped up aboard ships for almost nine months when they found themselves battling their way into the streets of Buenos Aires on July 5th. After hanging on grimly for what must have seemed like an age, Lumley led his men to the Plaza de Toros. Here, the 36th was left kicking their heels in frustration until news arrived of the armistice, which resulted in the surrender of Whitelocke's force on July 7th. Includes illustrations and maps. $35.00 USD

FIGHTING THE BRITISH: French Eyewitness Accounts from the Napoleonic Wars Each chapter looks at a specific campaign involving the French and the British. Extensive quotes from the French soldiers who were there are complemented by detailed notes describing the context of the war and the career of the eyewitness. Throughout the emphasis is on the voices of the lower ranks, the conscripts and the noncommissioned and junior officers. They describe in their own words the full range of warfare during the period – not only land battles but battles at sea, including the Nile and Trafalgar – and accounts of captivity in England are included too. $35.00 USD

CRUCIBLE OF THE JACOBITE '15: The Battle of Sheriffmuir 1715

CRUCIBLE OF THE JACOBITE '15: The Battle of Sheriffmuir 1715 Battle of Sheriffmuir 1715 helped decide the fate of the newly established – and bitterly contested – union of England and Scotland. On one hand, there was a numerically superior army, trained and armed but officered by men of varying experience. Facing them was a small, but more experienced and better officered, British Army. Both armies – one entirely Scottish and the other a mixture of Scots, English and Irish – were led by Scottish noblemen. $48.00 USD

Later he led a company of King Tiger panzers at Normandy, and in late 1944 commanded a battle group (12 King Tigers and a flak company) against the Russians in Hungary in the rank of junior, later senior lieutenant (from November 1944, his final rank). $35.00 USD

HUNGARIAN UPRISING: Budapest's Cataclysmic Twelve Days, 1956 Soviet troops had occupied Hungary in 1945 as they pushed towards Germany and by 1949, the country was ruled by a communist government that towed the Soviet line. Resentment at the system eventually boiled over at the end of October 1956. Protests erupted on the streets of Budapest and, as the violence spread, the government fell and was replaced by a new, more moderate regime. However, the intention of the new government to withdraw from the Warsaw Pact and declare neutrality in the Cold War proved just too much for Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev. Soviet forces had intervened at the beginning of events to help the former regime keep order but were withdrawn at the end of October, only to return in November and quell the uprising with brute force. $23.00 USD

RATELS ON THE LOMBA: The Story of Charlie Squadron Charlie Squadron – the iron fist of the South African Defense Force's 61 Mechanized Battalion Group – led the way on 3 October 1987 during the climactic battle on the Lomba River in Southern Angola. Not only were they up against a vastly superior force in terms of numbers and weaponry, but they also had to deal with a terrain so dense that both their movement and sight were severely impaired. Despite this, the squadron nearly wiped out the Angolan forces' 47 Brigade. Includes 50 black-and-white photos and maps. $40.00 USD
