The Civil War Memoirs of Capitain William J Seymour: Reminiscences of a Louisiana Tiger

The Civil War Memoirs of Capitain William J Seymour: Reminiscences of a Louisiana Tiger

New Orleans newspaper editor William J. Seymour left a detailed account of his wartime experiences – the only memoir by any field or staff officer of the famous 1st Louisiana Brigade (Hays' Brigade) in the Army of Northern Virginia. Long out of print, this is an updated and revised edition. After service in the 1862 New Orleans campaign, Seymour joined Gen. Harry Hays' staff in Virginia. Seymour's memoirs cover his experiences in the Army of Northern Virginia in great detail, including the campaigns of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and the Shenandoah Valley, ending with the Battle of Cedar Creek in 1864. His pen recounts the activities of the Louisiana Brigade, while offering a critical analysis of the tactics and strategies employed by the army. $20.00 USD

The Lost Papers of Confederate General John Bell Hood

The Lost Papers of Confederate General John Bell Hood

Although Hood's personal papers were thought lost or destroyed, the papers had been carefully preserved for generations by Hood's descendants. This 200+ document collection sheds important light on some of the war's lingering mysteries and controversies. For example, letters from Confederate officers help explain Hood's failure to entrap Schofield's Union army at Spring Hill, Tennessee, on November 29, 1864. Another letter by Lt. Gen. Stephen D. Lee helps to explain Maj. Gen. Patrick Cleburne's gallant but reckless conduct that resulted in his death at Franklin. Lee also lodges serious allegations against Confederate Maj. Gen. William Bate's troops. Other papers explain the purpose and intent behind Hood's controversial memoir Advance and Retreat, and validate its contents. While these and others offer a military perspective of Hood the general, the revealing letters between he and Anna, his beloved and devoted wife, help us better understand Hood the man and husband. Includes documents relating to Hood's U.S. Army service, Civil War career, and post-war life. It includes letters from Confederate and Union officers, unpublished battle reports, detailed medical reports relating to Hood's two major wounds, and dozens of letters exchanged between Hood and his wife Anna. $27.00 USD

Complemented by a number of maps and black-and-white and color illustrations. Besides the usual official Prussian histories and commander memoirs, this volume uses the basic narrative taken from the numerous volumes of the French official account, La Guerre de 1870-71, French commander memoirs, and numerous official and semi-official staff studies published during the 1880-90s. Includes detailed annexes providing copious Orders of Battle, after-battle unit reports, and casualty records for almost every engagement. $80.00 USD

Indo-Pakistani War of 1971: Vol. 2 Showdown in the North-West

Indo-Pakistani War of 1971: Volume 2 Showdown in the North-West

Late in the afternoon of 3 December 1971, in an attempt to distract New Delhi from developments in its eastern territory, Pakistan initiated hostilities with India by flying a series of air strikes against the forward air bases of the Indian Air force. Thus began the official part of the India-Pakistan War of 1971, a bitter conventional war of the highest intensity in the history of the two countries since their independence. Describes the battles for Kashmir, Chhamb and Shakargarh, and makes extensive use of official records and participant recollections, rare photography, and original color artworks. By 16 December, and rather suddenly, the conflict was over: once East Pakistan had been overrun by India, Pakistan had no incentive to continue fighting a war it could not possibly win. $30.00 USD
