The Sieges of the '45: Siege Warfare During the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745-1746

The Sieges of the '45: Siege Warfare During the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745-1746. There were more sieges than battles during the 1745-1746 Jacobite campaign in Scotland and England. Siege warfare was more common than set piece battles in Europe at this time and the '45 was no exception. There were two sieges of both Ruthven Barracks and of Carlisle, whilst the castles at Edinburgh, Blair Atholl, and Stirling were also besieged, as were the more recently-built Forts Augustus, George, and William. Examines and analyzes eight sieges in 1745-1746, the history and strength of the fortress or walled town, its garrison, and the strength of the attackers, along with the artillery employed by both sides. $38.00 USD

Fated to Defeat: 33. Waffen-Grenadier Division der SS 'Charlemagne' in the Struggle for Pomerania 1945 During February-March 1945 the French division took part in the struggle for Pomerania, facing overwhelming Soviet and Polish Forces. The unit fought in a constant retreat and met its fate during the few days of battle in Bialogard (former Belgard an der Persante) and Karlino (Koerlin) region. From that point, after the Division's reorganization from the German to the French pattern, the retreat transformed into a chaotic escape, which for many ended tragically in Polish or Soviet captivity, or in mass graves which are still waiting to be discovered. Only a handful of the 4,500 Frenchmen who started the battle near Czarne (Hammerstein) and Czluchow (Schlochau) managed to survive and after a few weeks reached the new meeting point in Neustrelitz, Germany. After that, some of them prepared for struggle for Berlin and went to battle once more in April 1945. $30.00 USD

Air Battles Over Hungary: 1944-45

Air Battles Over Hungary: 1944-45. This work is dedicated for the most part to the fighting over Hungary during the course of the Debrecen (6 October – 27 October 1944) and Budapest (29 October 1944 – 13 February 1945) offensives, as well as the Balaton Defensive Operation (6 – 15 March 1945), which the Red Army carried out from autumn 1944 until the spring of 1945. As air battles occurred over Budapest, the city bristled with anti-aircraft artillery. It was frequently subjected to bombing raids, and between the end of December – and the beginning of January many areas in the Hungarian capital had been turned into improvised airfields, and landing strips where transport aircraft and gliders would land with either German or Hungarian markings. Despite all the efforts to set up an air bridge, German command never succeeded in achieving this which forced those who found themselves besieged in the city to attempt a breakthrough, after which those remaining in the garrison surrendered. The long drawn out battle near Lake Balaton ended in defeat for the German forces and their allies. Oversized at 8.5 x 11-inches, includes 280 black-and-white photos and 50 color profiles. $45.00 USD

Operation Deliberate Force: Air War Over Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1992-1995. As Yugoslavia fractured, the war in Bosnia was in its third year as of 1995 and fought between Bosnian Serbs, supported by Belgrade; Bosnian Croats, supported by Zagreb; and Bosnian Muslims. It was characterized by widespread atrocities against civilians, which prompted hundreds of thousands to flee. The United Nations' attempts at finding a negotiated settlement proved fruitless, despite the deployment of a sizable contingent of peacekeepers. On the contrary, the Bosnian Muslims began receiving ever larger amounts of clandestine support from Iran, and also from Saudi Arabia and several other allied countries in the Middle East, while the U.S.A. began supporting the Croats. Upon constantly increasing popular pressure, the United Nations requested the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to intervene. Includes 88 photos, 8 maps, 1 diagram, 6 tables, and 15 color profiles and based on local, U.S.A., and NATO archives. $30.00 USD
