Helion and Company Publishing present the Helion and Company English Civil War Conference on Saturday, 19th September 2015.
Earlier this year, Helion and Company proudly launched the Century of the Soldier book series, dedicated to all aspects of the military history of the Seventeenth Century.
As part of our ongoing support of the series, we will be running the first Helion and Company Conference of the English Civil War. The event will be held at Rowley's House, Shrewsbury, on Saturday, 19th September 2015.
Papers on the day will include:
- Amphibious Operations in Scotland, October 1650 to August 1651.
- Medical Care and the King's Army in Oxford, 1642-46 – Was there any?
- Parliamentarian Cavalry Tactics or Why Waller lost Roundway.
- The Parliamentarian War Effort in Shropshire during the English Civil War, 1642-46
- Wedged up like billets in a wood pile: New light on the Battle of Middlewhich, 13th March 1643
- The legacy of the Fighting Veres in the English Civil War
- Ground-breaking pioneers or dangerous amateurs? Did early-modern surgery have any basis in medical science?
The speakers represent the cutting edge of research on the English Civil War, and many of them will be publishing within the Century of the Soldier series over the coming months.
A book of the collected papers will be published next year.
The conference will also be attended by publicity stands of the Pike and Shot Society and the Battlefields Trust.
The Helion and Company book stand will also be there with many on-the-day bargains.
The event in September will also see the launch of the next book in the series: Reconstructing the New Model Army Volume 1, by renowned Civil War historian and professor Malcolm Wanklyn.
Series editor Charles Singleton says: "Interest in 17th Century military history is very keen, and the conference is aimed at encouraging more research and introducing the dynamics of the period to a wider audience. With a wide range of topics, there will be something for all that attend."
Entrance is by advance ticket. To apply, please email Charles Singleton at: charlesjsingleton@yahoo.co.uk.
