A Great Offer From Bloomsbury

It appears from looking at the reviews on Amazon that this book is a bit like Marmite. You either love it or hate it, there doesn't seem to be a middle ground. 2 reviewers gave it 5 stars, whilst another two only gave it 1 star. The main gripes seem to be that it should have been published as two volumes, instead of with online support which includes the 178 maps that don't appear in the book itself, along with figures for economics, logistics, POWs, submarines, kamikaze and a timeline. There are criticisms of the first chapter, but one reviewer says that if the author had missed out the scene setting and got straight into the war the reader wouldn't have missed much, and the book improves dramatically as you get into it.It still appears to be great value for money at the price when you get over 1000 pages of print plus the online additions as well.

Hirohito's War
Francis Pike's magisterial narrative of the Pacific War gives attention to the Japanese perspective, challenging the standard interpretations of such events as the use of the atom bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, along with including blow-by-blow accounts of campaigns and battles. With a plethora of additional online resources, Hirohito's War offers a comprehensive guide to this explosive theater of World War II.
