Draws out the arguments concerning the longbow and produces a balanced and convincing summary. Opens with a detailed description of the weapon system – the bow, arrow, and arrowheads. Shortbow-Longbow conundrum is examined in depth. The longbow's capabilities and effectiveness are evaluated using recent research allied to contemporary accounts. The part the bow played in the 'Infantry Revolution' and the longbow's relationship with the crossbow are covered. WARS AND SOLDIERS IN THE EARLY REIGN OF LOUIS XIV: Volume 8 – The Armies of Sweden and Denmark-Norway, 1665-1690
Details the conflicts fought by Sweden and Denmark-Norway in the late 17th Century. The history, organization, equipment, uniforms, and ensigns of the two armies are brought together in a single volume, together with an appendix dealing with the Duchy of Courland. Both France and Sweden were interested in reducing the Dutch leading roll as a seafaring, commerce nation. Denmark-Norway faced this scenario always in the opposite side. The Swedish army was still regarded as a role model by the contemporaries, and even after the reforms introduced by Gustavus Adolphus, Swedish generals did not cease to develop new military theories, while the state provided itself with an administrative structure capable of supporting the war effort. No less important was the political and military trajectory of Denmark, the nation that more than any other in these years was on the front line against the Lion of the North. Contains 8 color plates, 100 black-and-white illustrations, diagrams, and maps. $60.00 USD

THE RESURRECTED PIRATE: The Life, Death, and Subsequent Career of the Notorious George Lowther
Details the adventures of the pirate George Lowther and how he was 'resurrected' as a Royal Navy officer, nearly 20 years after his alleged death by suicide in 1723. George Lowther was a mutineer and a pirate, one of the most prolific during the Golden Age of Piracy. Virtually all popular sources specify Lowther's death being by suicide in 1723, while marooned on the small island of Blanquilla, off the coast of Venezuela. Through primary research material, explores how Lowther was pardoned and commissioned as a Royal Navy lieutenant in 1741 – therefore, the date and place of his death have been reported erroneously. Contains 45 black-and-white photos and maps. $30.00 USD

THE ADRIATIC AFFAIR: A Maritime Hit-and-Run off the Coast of Nantucket
A definitive account of the sinking of Le Lyonnais and the hunt for Captain Jonathan Durham. The American sailing vessel Adriatic collided with the French steamship Le Lyonnais on November 2, 1856, off the coast of Nantucket in what can best be described as a maritime hit-and-run. Adriatic's captain, Jonathan Durham, rendered no aid and left the passenger steamship to fend for herself. In August 2024, the author and a team of explorers discovered, dived, and identified the wreckage of Le Lyonnais on the eastern edges of Georges Bank. The book includes an epilogue that chronicles what it takes to chase shipwrecks far from shore in the often-punishing North Atlantic, the search for and discovery of Le Lyonnais, and how it changed their lives. Contains 75 color and black-and-white images. $35.00 USD

AN UNAVOIDABLE EVIL: Siege Warfare in the Age of Napoleon
Draws together established and emerging experts of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars from around the world to shed new light on the topic of siege warfare in the age of Napoleon. Bridging the gap between high standards of scholarship and public engagement, brings together the latest thinking on a neglected aspect of one of the most written about conflicts in history. By examining events such as the siege of Ismail, Wellington's sieges in India and the Iberian Peninsula, and the efforts to establish security on the French border post-war, highlights the local and international implications of this form of warfare. Explores how the manner in which sieges were conducted shifted over the period, and how commanders sought to address the challenges they presented for the men under their command, their wider strategic aims, and for the civilians caught in the crossfire. Contains 7 black-and-white maps. $45.00 USD

GERMAN BREAKTHROUGH IN GREECE: The 1941 Battle of Pineios Gorge – Then and Now
Chronicles the 1941 Greek campaign, detailing how ANZAC forces, despite strategic delays and German blunders, managed a narrow escape from impending defeat. Winston Churchill sought to use Australian and New Zealand troops in his Greek venture. While the New Zealand government was adamant that their forces should have the support of an armored brigade, the Australian government was more concerned that it would end in an evacuation; a fear also evident among the British planners, a view they were reluctant to share Details how the entire Anzac Corps escaped the German trap, albeit by the skin of their teeth, and the British avoided the wider political ramifications of what could have happened had they lost what was, in New Zealand's case, their sole contribution to British land forces in the Middle East. Just how the Anzac troops in Greece succeeded in the face of what was thrown against them from both sides of the hill is the subject of this book. Contains 184 mono illustrations. $40.00 USD
