SPQR: Germania
The strength of a Germanic Warband lies in its infantry, with most being able to deploy a veritable horde of ferocious warriors. What they lacked in sophisticated tactics or quality of equipment was more than made up for by courage and a desire to take the fight to the enemy.
Heroes
A Germanic hero will be found at the thickest of the fighting. He commands absolute respect from his warriors; those who can only hope to follow in his footsteps. This box set also includes heroes of legend, Arminius and Ariovistus.
Infantry
The infantry are the greatest boon to a Germanic Warband – most tribes were able to deploy a horde of bloodthirsty warriors. Under the leadership of a chieftain, they would show no fear, some even going so far as to charge into battle naked. Those who were too poor or young to be considered warriors could still join the battle, peppering a foe from afar with arrow or javelin.
Cavalry
Just as fearless as the infantry were men who rode into battle ahorse. They preferred to use hit and run tactics or harry the flanks, as Germanic infantry was more than capable of charging into enemy formations head-on.
1,000-Denarii Mounted Warband
Our Warband is based on a hefty core of savage warriors bearing down on their foes, taking full advantage of Germania's strengths. The large block of infantry should be charging right into the thick of the enemy, whilst the cavalry and archers act in a supporting, reactionary role.
