Contested Seas

A set of fast-play rules for the pre-Dreadnought era, 1880-1905. Yes, I stretched the start of the era a bit, but those pre-pre-Dreadnoughts are just lovely.

Fast play is a relative term, but Contested Seas moves right along while still maintaining a large dose of era ambience. Players have the choice as to how complex they wish the game, but no matter what the style, the results will ring true ('don't attack battleships with protected cruisers' is a good tip).

Contested Seas is a cousin of 4P Press' Naval Mania rules, but features a revamped ranging system, more concise gunnery, simplified torpedo rules, and the introduction of turning circles, all designed to speed things up.

However, like its more in-depth cousin, Contested Seas features ratings for all 2,367 ships that come in Naval Mania. That's a lot of ships, and for just $10.99 USD, it's a lot of game.

Contested Seas includes useful playing aids, such as a QRS that is actually useful, and print-out turning circles. As is 4P policy, the game supports what scale you happen to play in, and also includes a blank ranging table for any custom scales you wish to invent. Just add the measurements and you're good to go. Wow.
