Type 96 150mm Howitzer (JP580)

Work began on developing a new howitzer during the 1920s, after the Japanese Army sent a number of military attachés to Europe during WWI.

Observing the effectiveness of prolonged artillery bombardments, it was concluded that the Imperial Japanese Army required a weapon of similar capabilities in order to keep pace with the military forces in the west.
