Rapid Fire: Blitzkrieg Battlegroups

Rapid Fire: Blitzkrieg Battlegroups The latest in our series of Rapid Fire Battlegroup books is Blitzkrieg Battlegroups, our first-ever publication to cover the early war period in Western Europe. Blitzkrieg Battlegroups provides RF players with 400-point and 200-point (the latter with an additional four 50-point reinforcement options) for eight German, four British, and four French divisions, all selected because they fought in key actions during the German thrust from the Ardennes to the Channel coast in May 1940. Players can use them to re-fight historical actions, or just as handy points-matched early war forces to build and battle against each other.

Blitzkrieg Battlegroups' 64 pages are packed with our trademark full-color graphic orbats, plus historical backgrounds, photos of 20mm wargames figures and vehicles to inspire your making and painting, and comprehensive vehicle and gun charts with all the movement and fire stats you need to play. And, as with our companion Normandy Battlegroups and Normandy Battlegames books, a future Blitzkrieg Battlegames publication is planned to provide historical scenarios for the Battlegroup forces. $28.00 USD

The German Pioneers: Technical Troops and the Train Illustrated in color, 512 pages, over 1,500 color photographs, contemporary black-and-white photographs, tables and illustrations, linen bound with dust cover, and large format. This book summaries of the developmental history of the German pioneers, technical troops, and train formations for the period between 1871 and 1914, followed by the specifics of their headgear, uniforms and equipment. Along with the Prussian formations, this book covers the contingents of the Kingdoms of Bavaria, Saxony and Wurttemberg, as well as the Grand Duchies of Baden and Hesse. The roughly 450 items shown are from various private and public collections, including the Bayerisches Armeemuseum in Ingolstadt, the Militarhistorisches Museum der Bundeswehr in Dresden and the Wehrgeschichtliches Museum in Rastatt. $160.00 USD

The Belgian Army in the Great War: Volume 2 Illustrated in color, 512 pages, over 1,500 color photographs, contemporary black-and-white photographs, tables and illustrations, linen bound with dust cover, and large format. Modest in numbers, the Belgian army of 1914 carried a decent individual armament, even if its concept was 20 years old. Well trained, the soldier could exploit to its maximum the long-range precision of his weapon. However, the small numbers of automatic weapons, recently purchased, would prove a serious handicap when vastly outnumbered by the enemy. Once again, the collections of the Royal Military Museum of Brussels reveal their wealth and diversity. Much more than a simple catalogu of weapons used by the Belgian army, it is the story of the transformation of a small army caught in the struggles of the Great War, its adaptation to technological and tactical progress. $148.00 USD

Army of the Duchy of Warsaw: Generals, Aides-de-camp, Staffs Volume 4 This book analyzes topics such as changes in the structure of commanding the army, officials of the Duchy connected with the military, and the health service and chaplains offering pastoral care to the troops. The text contains organization charts of the supreme military offices, and of infantry and cavalry regiments. A separate chapter was dedicated to the orders of the era, only partly familiar to those interested in the issue. Apart from popular orders, such as the Virtuti Militari and the Legion of Honor, this covers ten other orders worn on their uniforms by Polish generals and aides-de-camp. The two tables provide information on nominations to particular ranks, and on the distinctions conferred on the generals of the Duchy and on Polish higher officers serving in foreign armies (in French and Italian pay).

Illustrations depict Prince Jozef Poniatowski and 28 other generals in various uniforms, worn at that time by high-ranking officers of the Duchy of Warsaw. Other charts show officers, aides-de-camps, and officials employed in the staff and in the Ministry of War. Eight detailed charts offer an insight into the separate parts of the uniforms and accessories. Over a dozen other detailed tables are related to orders and medical equipment. [Polish text with English notes] $115.00 USD
