They allow you to refight not merely the invasion of the Martians, but have rules for building your own armored trains and warships. They also allow you to design and build your own armored fighting vehicles, taking advantage of all the modern technological advances you are willing to pay for. Whilst you can refight perfectly historical battles, it has to be confessed that the aura of Steampunk clings possessively to the entire project.
