TANAKA 1587: Japan's Greatest Unknown Samurai Battle Tanaka 1587 uses evidence that is available from history, literature, folklore, archaeology, and cartography based on the author's own translations of the chronicles and the archaeological report together with his extensive fieldwork.
Prompted by the approaching fourth centenary of the battle, the local council set in motion a systematic archaeological investigation of the castle site. Many interesting finds were made, but the greatest discovery of all came in 1989 in a distant library when a researcher unearthed what turned out to be Japan's oldest surviving battle map. It featured a detailed drawing of Tanaka Castle during the siege that matched up exactly with the picture that was emerging from the excavation. The unique document also contained so much extra information that, when combined with the archaeological finds, the written materials and local folklore, the almost forgotten siege of Tanaka became one of the best documented battles in the whole of Japan's samurai history. ARMY SERVICE CORPS 1902-1918: 2nd Edition Starting WWI with a strength of 6,400 all ranks and the straight forward task of providing transport and rations support for a handful of divisions, the ASC progressively took on more and more functions. At the same time the Corps transferred 82,000 men to the Infantry, 100 officers to the Royal Flying Corps and played a key role in the creation of the Heavy Branch of the Machine Gun Corps (later the Tank Corps). ONCE WE MOVED LIKE THE WIND: The Apache Wars, 1861-1886 Wargame Covers the Apache Wars with native Americans of the Southwestern U.S. commanded by Cochise, Victorio, Chato, Geronimo, and others. Provocation levels determine Apache forces, with combat between forces in the same area. Playing pieces are wooden blocks with the information about each particular piece only on one side and hence hidden during play from the opposing player until action occurs which must reveal particular blocks. Not all of these blocks are actually opposing forces. For the Apache player in particular, many playing pieces each turn will represent rumors of Apache actions and forces which the Army player must chase down to determine if they are real or false.
