Chevauchee: Rules for Battles with Medieval Miniatures

During the 100 Years War between France and England, bands of soldiers from both sides launched raids into enemy-held territory, burning, pillaging, and slaying as much as possible before opposition could be mounted in strength. This practice, known as chevauchee, is the inspiration for this game of medieval and renaissance warfare.

Designed for fun and playability, Chevauchee is perfect for novice and veteran gamers alike and offers a basic set of man-to-man combat rules, expanded optional rules, and a special system for simple siege warfare. It can be played with almost any appropriate miniature figures, each of which can use whatever weapons it is, armed with and is equipped with whatever armor the model wears, eliminating paperwork and speeding play.

H.G. Wells' Little Orc Wars

From Skirmisher Publishing
PDF – $4.99 USD

H.G. Wells' Little Orc Wars

H.G. Wells' Little Orc Wars is a fun, simple, fast-paced system that is designed to be quick-to-learn and easy-to-play, so that players can focus on concerns like strategy and having fun, rather than on mechanics. It includes both basic rules that can be used alone, plus a variety of optional rules that players can add as they see fit to take their games to the next level. These include guidelines for Giants, War Beasts, Undead, Dwarves, Elves, Amphibious and Aquatic Creatures, Elementals, Structures, Siege, Terrain, Boats, and Heroes like Champions (Paladins, Rangers), Priests (Clerics, Necromancers) and Wizards.

As their name suggests, the rules contained in this booklet are based on and inspired by the rules and concepts, presented by genius writer and game designer H.G. Wells in his works Floor Games (1911) and Little Wars (1913). Little Orc Wars is inspired by them and is true to the spirit of Wells in every way possible – to include using live catapult fire to resolve ranged combat! A primary feature of this game is that it can be played with virtually any miniatures, setting it apart from games that demand only their branded products be used. It is, in fact, one of the most flexible, innovative, and fast-paced miniatures rule systems for use with fantasy miniatures and models ever created.

These rules are also fully supported by the Infinity online game magazine, and players should keep-an-eye on it for addenda, errata, and optional rules and expansions for addenda, errata, and optional rules and expansions designed to incorporate more detail, options and complexity.

Quactica: Battles for the Soul of Middle Aesopia

Innovative set of miniatures rules by veteran game designer and miniatures sculptor Steve Lortz, author of the famous Perilous Encounters rules released by Chaosium in 1978. Set in a world inhabited by various races of anthropomorphic animals – including ducks, dwargs, and porks – the rules tie in with a beautiful line of miniatures created by the late great Lortz and produced by Lance & Laser.

This download includes a set of nine full-color miniatures that can be printed out either in color or black-and-white on cardstock; statistics for four different skill levels of Loonar Imperial Heavy Infantry and Loonar Imperial Archers on the one side and Pork Warriors, Gobbling Warriors, and Gobbling Archers on the other, and full instructions for assembling them.

Ragnarok: Age of Wolves

From Skirmisher Publishing
PDF – $9.99 USD

Ragnarok: Age of Wolves

Skirmish-level game for novice and experienced tabletop players alike that emulates the desperate small-scale actions that might result during the unending winter that is the first stage of the Viking Apocalypse.

As crops fail and food grows scarce, banditry becomes rife as formerly good folk are driven to extremes and bad men take advantage of chaos and hardship. Monsters haunt the wilds and prowl the outskirts of palisaded settlement and isolated steading alike. Huldrfolk, never easy neighbors, but generally peaceful if left undisturbed, now move to defend their sacred groves and to seize places once devoted to gods who now seem absent. Trolls and their ilk gather, marauders sweep brigands and more into their bands, and whispers abound of gaunt giant wolves and worse, glimpsed in the swirl of a snowstorm. And where such beasts and everlasting winter hold sway, the Frost Giants cannot be far behind…

A set of fun, fast-playing, and evocative rules that allow you to fight out the desperate battles and skirmishes of the Fimblvintr. It also includes a four-part campaign to take you through the struggle of one man trying to preserve something of his honor, his life, and the people and creatures who depend on him for survival. Finally, we have given you everything you need to expand the strife to include the other creatures and Sagas of the Ragnarok!

Skirmish!

From Skirmisher Publishing
PDF – $4.99 USD

Skirmish!

A quick-to-learn, easy-to-set up game of combat that can played using almost any miniature figures to simulate small-scale battles. It is intended for both veteran and novice players, and is simple enough to be a beginner's first wargame and versatile and expandable enough to satisfy more experienced gamers – especially those who want to pull some of their old toy soldiers out of a footlocker or the closet and use them in a game.

Skirmish! is designed for simplicity and playability. All that is needed to play are some miniature figures, a ruler or tape measure, and three standard, 6-sided dice. The basic rules can be read, a handful of soldiers selected, and a game set up in about 20 minutes, and in much less time than that for players already familiar with the rules. There are no cumbersome charts or combat matrices, no supporting paperwork needed to keep track of a game in play, and a minimum of simple tables. Most attacks can be completely resolved with a single roll of the dice and anything beyond the basic rules is optional.

This download includes two versions: one with graphics that is designed to look like the other books in the series of which it is part, and the other with just the text of the rules.
