Contra Barbaros!

This fourth expansion in the Armies and Battles series has been created to be used in conjunction with Magna Acies!, our grand tactical 3D wargame rulebook for the Ancient Period (to use these pages, therefore, you must have the basic rulebook).

With this work, we try to examine the relationship between Rome and the "bordering" populations to the north and northeast of Rome, recalling some significant stages (not all, of course…) of the wars between the Romans and the Celtic and Germanic worlds, in a total time span of about six centuries. This study therefore allows us to cover the entire history of Rome and Europe from the end of the third century BC (when Roman armies coming from the Greek hoplitism and the Italic manipular tradition clashed against warrior hordes of strict Celtic tradition) up to the fourth century AD (when the Roman armies of the late empire were not so dissimilar from the Gothic militias against which they fought). We will then retrace Rome's defense of Italy against the most dangerous incursions of the Cisalpine Gauls and the first Germanic tribes, and then we will follow Rome's expansion campaigns in Gaul, Germany, Britain and Dacia, and finally we will reach the grueling wars for the defense of the borders of the Empire against the Alamanni and Goths.

This booklet consists of three elements: three "Quickstart scenarios" (with attached game tables), thirteen "Army lists" (also with attached game tables) and seven "Battle maps".

Also available in Italian.
