With regret, I would like to inform you that I'm closing Assault Publishing at the end of May 2018. I have summarized the last three quarters, and neither financial nor non-financial goals have been reached. In my opinion, if you're doing something, you should either do it for cash or for fun. Game designing probably won't make you rich, but it should make you happy. When too many things move from the 'want to' zone to the 'must' zone, the stress-to-joy ratio becomes highly adverse, and it's high time to ask yourself "Why?" and "For whom?"
On the one hand, the last seven years have been a great adventure, full of challenges, great people, and new skills. On the other hand, the new duties in my 'real' job have completely depleted my energy over the last two years. I also have an awesome wife and two growing daughters (6 and 10), and I don't want to miss important moments in our life due to being completely overwhelmed with things I don't have to do.
But if you lose, lose in good style. I'm very happy that I'm closing Assault Publishing without debts, uncompleted orders, or other problems. I also know that my games will have support in the future: the Shadows in the Void miniatures range will be continued by PicoArmor, and their minis are also a perfect fit for Hind Commander and PMC 2640. In general, our U.S.-based friends can provide you with everything you need. You will be able to buy Assault Publishing rulebooks from them as well, or from me directly (as according to law, I'm allowed to sell my own books without registering a company), but I do not plan to print any new rules. The remainder of the assortment will be on sale (discounted from 35% to 50%) in the Assault Publishing online store until 25th May, when the shop will finally close once and for all.
But this is not my last word. Wargame designers do not quit – they wait for re-rolls! I'm going to stay active in rules development and I'm keeping Assault Publishing as my brand. I plan to finish some expansions (Swarm/Revolt 2640, new spacecraft for SitV, etc…) or even release some new games as free or low-cost PDFs, but we will see in the future. Maybe it's a new beginning.
