As wargamers push "Renaissance" way into modern times, I will certainly not object if the "medieval" wargame magazines cover the "Renaissance" proper…

That said, I am looking with some kind of anticipation to the way they present the Sacco in their magazine. The event was awashed with propaganda even while it happened, and later coverage rarely strifes for an objective viewpoint. It was one of these unexpected freak events of history that no contemporary really expected (a famished army without any siege equipment conquering a defended city in just a day), and that considerably changed history (lets start with Henry VIII staying catholic…).

Medieval Warfare IX-3

The newest issue of Medieval Warfare was recently sent off to the printer. Besides featuring an updated cover design and some slight tweaks to the interior, this edition promises to be a good read for fans of the late medieval and renaissance era, as we'll be taking a look at the 1527 Sack of Rome in one extensive theme article. Other off-topic subjects include the Battle of Stoke Field, new research on the origins of the trebuchet, and the Black Prince's Grand Chevauchée.
