August 29th, 1779

In 1779, General George Washington ordered General John Sullivan to gather an army and form an offensive against the Iroquois Nations and their allies. Because of repeated attacks against the white settlers, his orders were to drive the Indians out of the wilderness of New York, to burn their villages and destroy their crops so they could not return. The army was to push its way northward to the shores of Lake Ontario and to capture the British Forts Oswego and Niagara. Battle for Newtown

Scenario: Beginning at the 6am Day Segment, the American must capture the heights and hold them until the end of the battle day. The British only slightly surprise the Americans and as a result will have the initiative at the 6am Day Segment only. Otherwise, conduct the Day Segments as per the rules.

American Briefing: General Washington expected a swift attack, but now you have delayed for over two months with one excuse or the other! As you marched closer to finally engaging with the enemy, you are surprised by an ambush from the very forces you were chasing! The time is nigh to crush the British and their nefarious Mohawk allies once and for all. Smash through their defenses and capture the heights, where your scouts have indicated rests the enemy Headquarters.

British Briefing: They are like sheep to the slaughter! Your loyal native allies have prepared an ambush, and it's time to surprise and send these rebellious rabble back to their holes where they came from.

Weather Conditions: Clear.

Can you drive the British and their Indian allies from the forests? Can you stop the advancing Americans with the aid of your loyal Indian allies? Give the scenario a try! It is located in the subgroup.
