A tabletop miniatures ruleset for the simulation of one-to-one, company-level ground combat on the European fronts from June 1944 to May 1945. Its principal features include: a 1:1,000 terrain scale (requiring a playing area of 80-100" × 65-80"); 1:100 to 1:300 miniature scales; a representation scale of one model = one real unit; and one turn = five minutes. Force balance is achieved through a points-value system, while the battlefield is generated by a detailed random terrain system specifically designed for three Theaters of Operations (Western, Southern and Eastern European) and, optionally, for nine different Operational Fronts and time periods.
The turn sequence consists of a simultaneous Command and Control Phase, featuring randomly occurring temporary hesitations and morale checks only in the most critical situations; an alternating Movement Phase, in which units from either side are activated by random draw; and a simultaneous Combat Phase, with firing priorities determined by the actions taken during the previous phase. Movement is based on only three mobility classes, firing modifiers are kept to the essential minimum, infantry rules are deliberately streamlined, and mortar and artillery fire missions are called in by estimating target coordinates by eye, air support and anti-aircraft fire are included in simplified form, while victory is determined by objectives secured in relation to losses sustained.
The ruleset also includes more than twenty optional rules for players seeking a more operational level of detail or wishing to recreate specific battlefield situations, including special ammunition, amphibious vehicles, field fortifications, elite troops, and more. The core rules occupy just 10 pages, with a further 12 pages devoted to tables, optional and alternative rules, and diagrams.
Intended for enthusiasts who wish to recreate the battles of the period in a manner that is both reasonably realistic and straightforward to play. A typical game lasts three to six hours, depending on the size of the opposing forces and the players' familiarity with the rules.
